We researched the original reporter months back. Her name escapes me at the moment, but I remember she's a bigtime Lib, who I think went off to Paris for a while and might be back in NY now...
She had no relevant information, btw, when she was contacted about this ... it very much seemed that she didn't take the photos herself ...
Odd the Chicago paper carried ran the story but used another guys name:

Abstract (Document Summary)
When Yadate Debrework came here six years ago to study international law, the world had barely heard of Mikhail Gorbachev, there was still a country called the Soviet Union, and the young Ethiopian had enough money to survive.
“I can’t even afford to go home,” said the 31-year-old graduate student. He will complete his studies at the Patrice Lumumba University this summer and literally does not have the fare back to Ethiopia.
Debrework and an estimated 84,000 other students from all over the world have found themselves abandoned as the economic collapse that accompanied the USSR’s demise left the government without money to support them.
AP names new sports columnist; Seward leads Paris
NEW YORK (AP) -- John Leicester, The Associated Press bureau chief in Paris, will become international sport columnist, and Deborah Seward, a Paris-based special international editor, will succeed him leading the cooperative's news coverage in France and parts of North Africa.
The same Deborah Seward?
That's really odd. Any mention of Roman Obama?
>>> The same Deborah Seward?
That is 3 days after it was in the RECORD
>>> That is 3 days after it was in the RECORD
In those days, an AP story that wasn’t timely might have been run several days after it was posted by the AP - depending on the needs of the editor and the copy space needed for print at the smaller newspapers...

Going a bit off the track here (and I might have misheard):
Wasn't there a lawyer who did research and found an "Obama" in a plane crash (maybe in Russia?) a long time ago? This lawyer then went on to say that there may have been many "Obama"s trained to be our President. The reason for many is for back up in case their main "Obama" met with an accident.
I know this sounds far fetched, but nowadays with all that's happening... anything is possible.
Where’s his accent? If he’s from EQ he would’ve had a slight French accent.
We need to talk to Luis Alonso, his roommate, and the other guy, Edu.
“...a story that bothered me in the same vein was the one of the captured laptop in Columbia. It belonged to a high honcho of FARC. In it, we find an e-mail that mentioned Obama’s people would meet with Hugo Chavez. It assured the reader that Obama would be president.”
THIS has bothered me as well. Some good investigative reporting REALLY needs to be done.
Obama is a biological and an ideological child of 1960s Marxist-Alinsky hippie street rabble.
This one just keeps rolling along,,,and growing!
