For the last several years Ive been despairing over what to do about my hair. I used to wear it long, but it grew too thin, so I briefly tried wearing it short with a rat tail (remember those?). I quickly decided that this looked ridiculous and clipped it off. Grew it out long again, whacked it off short, back and forth. By the time I hit fifty the top of my head was pretty much a clear landing strip for insects and small birds.
I have several friends who shave their heads and all of them are happy with it. I considered trying it more than once but chickened out each time. Last Saturday night however, I decided to take the plunge. Perhaps Id become obsessive about it. I spent an hour looking at images of some of my favorite action heroes with shaved heads, along with photos of some of my friends who shave theirs (you know who you are). What the hell, I decided. If I dont like it, itll grow back in a few days.

I've been considering the same thing but haven't yet gotten to the mowing stage. I keep thinking, I'll wait till after the upcoming holiday, or trip to Hawaii, or ... some other excuse to put it off...and so far, I haven't run out of excuses, even as my hair gets thinner and thinner!
And as I replied to you on the blog... ;-)
Just go for it! If you don’t like the look, it’ll grow back in a few days anyway.
Or, get a really short hair cut - maybe a military cut. You can just stand back from a mirror a few feet and a good idea how you’ll look.
Seriously, I’m enjoying my bald head. It took a couple years off my appearance, too.
And spending money at the barber shop is a thing of the past. A do-it-yourself 20 dollar hair trimmer pays for itself in no time.
Comb it with a razor, you’ll wonder why you ever put up with that stuff to begin with. The first couple times are kind of rough, although your hair seems thin there are areas that are pretty tough and it won’t go away quietly.
Women seem to like a shaved head. Disdaining the idea of hiding behind hair gives the shavee a confidence that radiates all around you. If you have a fat roll at the back of your neck, all bets are off.
Check out recent photos of the actor Ed Harris. That’s the way to go.
“Women seem to like a shaved head.”
We do?
... so you're on your own fellas!
I am an exercise nut and, in retrospect, hair just doesn't work for folks that like to sweat.
And as to the social aspects of it...it just feels more authentic. I think it looks great, and it's nice feeling that folks will just have to accept me as I am (and in the end, that's what they do anyway).
Bottom line: if you worry about your hair, shaving your head will end that worry. I'm not the worrying kind but I was shocked how much I hassled with my hair...you don't realize what a pain in the @ss hair is until you get rid of it.
I even know some women who have begun to consider a head shave. I suggestion is "go for it."
Unless you have extremely oily producing skin/scalp.
My quad son shaves has his head shaved weekly (bald) and has to use tar soap then head and shoulders (his preferance of soap).
Followed by daily RX of topical clyndamicyn (sic).
Thankfull he looks great with the no hair....if he was able to grow it out it would not have any balding spots.
The cost of the replacement blades is spendy but so are those dang electric shaver blades too.
Plus he uses Biore face stickers to keep the pores open/dirt free.
God I suppose he will never have a wrinkle and it is weird as he gets excited about something ...like a good looking woman saunders by his oil just pours.
I joke that if I could can it I would have fuel.
OTOH God gave me the a very dry complexion. No $$$ needed just have to eat good to prevent signs of age.
Since, AT BEST, a man can deal with only one woman at a time, he needs to find ONE WOMAN who loves him for who he is...and then forget about what the rest of them think.
Popularity contests suck even in high school. Fuggetaboutem!;-)
WAHL Balding shears.
Go to a beauty supply store.
It comes with a 1 yr. warrenty.
It works quick and down to the scalp.
No hair on top but those damn nose hairs seem to grow like rabbits mating.
All who recommend shaving their heads should invest in a good supply of sun screen and hats if they spend much time outdoors. My father-in-law suffered from a painful and expensive form of skin cancer on his scalp.
That where hair goes to hide from the sun.;-)
Well we live in the PNW and have to take Vit. D.
Lucky in no sun as when the son gets out after the hours it takes to get up (groomed ect.) and tranferred to his Quickie most of his events/venues are indoors and after 2pm.
But yeah living in Cali/Arizona might not be so good for our baldy Freeper men.
There is another alternative, which is the buzz clipper cut. I cut my husband’s hair to about 1/8 or 1/16 all over. Long enough to hide scalp flaws and look like you have hair but short enough to minimize grey and any bald area.
The head blade. I use one of those in the shower everyday. No mirror needed I can do it by feel. No more gray hair and only one bald spot. :) My wife says it makes me look younger and more intimidating. I just like not having to mess with hair. I wouldn’t mind not having any hair to shave permanently personally.
It was pointed out a week ago that I was going bald - I have a spot about half an inch in diameter in the center of my scalp but I'm not going to worry. I'm 63 years old.
