Obama Is On The Northern Bank Of The Rubicon

Julius Caesar was a skilled orator ( without a teleprompter ) and a clever politician. He ruled Rome within a triumvirate (literally, a government of three). Pompey and Crassus his co rulers were back from the victory over Spartacus and the gladiator / slave revolt and Julius was engaged in the massive killing of Celts in Gaul, his personal province.

Caesar was marching with his army to Rome, when a messenger intercepted them from the Senate in Ravena a small border town on the Rubicon River. Pompey and Crassus were worried that Caesar with his army would usurp power in Rome and had the Senate pass the senatus consultum ultimum, in effect Caesar was stripped of his Provinces in Gaul and he was to disband his armies and was not to advance past the Northern Border of Italy with his army at the risk of being considered an enemy of the state with all governors to take steps that the state was not to suffer harm by the enemy of the state Julius Caesar.

Caesar weighed the gamble and on the eleventh of January 49 BC, ordered his army across the Rubicon, as they crossed the river, he said this famous phrase, “alea iacta est” the die is cast. (refers to casting molten metal, once you pour the molten metal, there is no turning back, the die or image of the casting is done)

Obama is now faced with a crucial decision within his presidency, his “Senate” has told him no more troops, his General has told him he needs more troops or they risk a disaster.

Finally, Obama is backed into a corner, does he listen to the political influences that for some reason are reluctant to send more troops or does he trust in the professionalism of his personally appointed commander and go for victory, a result that he has declared not to be an objective. In the mean time, our young Patriots are paying the price for his indecision with their lives.

Julius Caesar would not have hesitated, he would have given his Commanders the troops they needed and told them to win the war as soon as possible. But when victory is not an option, there is a different aspect to war, one that Julius Caesar would not have understood.

Perhaps Obama is content to let time pass by to see how the situation plays out like he did during the student protests in Iran and the subsequent blood bath and atrocities that followed. Tragic results including the rape and torture of young people by monsters egged on with promises of short cuts to Muslim Heaven by the same Mullahs that Obama likes to consider his friends.

“alea iacta est” the die is cast. (refers to casting molten metal, once you pour the molten metal, there is no turning back, the die or image of the casting is done

This is incorrect.

"Alea" is a dice game, actually played with little bone dice that look much like our modern ones.

"The die is cast" means the bones are on the table and you can't take 'em back.

I've never heard of that definintion. Every time I've heard of "Alea" it has refered to a die or dice in a game, not a mold for metal. Similarly, "Iacta" refers to throwing or hurling the dice, not to metal casting. A looser, more idiomatic translation would be "The game is beginning".

This is inaccurate. When liquid materials are poured into a mold or die, it is the material that is cast, not the die. (It's why we speak of, for example, "cast iron.") The die in Caesar's famous phrase refers to the item the plural of which is dice, and the verb "cast" refers to rolling or throwing. Julius knew he was taking a massive gamble, and once he'd crossed the Rubicon with his army, the gamble was made, the dice were rolled, the die was cast, and there was no going back.

As to the substance of the piece, is the author seriously suggesting that Obama should "cross the Rubicon" and do as Caesar did, disregarding the civilian authorities and instigating a civil war for the purpose of making himself military dictator? Gawd, I hope not.
