Newt Gingrich has always been an "idea" man. He was the one who brilliantly conceived the idea of Nationalizing the 1994 elections with the Contract With America.

That said, thinking and doing are two totally different things. Once he had the Speaker's seat, he was totally out maneuvered by Monica Lewinsky's ex-boyfriend and was pretty much "Newt"ered the remainder of his time.

I believe the longer anyone stays in Washington, the more likely they'll "grow", ie, become more Leftist in belief and want Government to solve problems (this is what happened to many that used to be on our side like, ie, Trent Lott, Peggy Noonan, etc.). THis is what's happened to Newt. Now, he'll have to pay for being out of touch with Conservative America.

By standing with her, Newt Gingrich has earned that dreaded label he once affixed to Nancy Pelosi. Newt has become a partisan and trivial politician. He has become a common hack.

Absolutely nailed it.

Gingrich has fallen far. I wonder if it’s because he craves attention. If you’re not grounded I guess being in the media can do that to you. Gingrich is very book smart, but has increasing become quite a gullible dork.

I was crazy about Newt back in the 90s, but he, like many Americans, had reached the Peter Principle.
He needs to be told to hang up his rock and roll shoes.

Agreed. He last every last shred of any respect I had for him when he backed Scozzafava.

On a slightly different topic, anyone know what Hannity had to say about Newt backing her? I’d loved to have heard that because he has Newt on so often and Scozzafava was against everything Sean says he believes in....

Soon after Sarah’s resignation last summer and after Krauthammer took her to the woodshed for lacking elementary knowledge and skills to pursue the presidency, I recall certain FR commenters insisting that she couldn’t hold a candle to Reagan between 1976 and 1980 when he was making speeches, gearing up after his loss in 1976. I was told I was a fool for thinking she had potential, based on her life experience (for me, running a commercial fishing operation with her husband, including hands-on labor in miserable conditions, spoke volumes about character, but whaddahIknow).

IMHO, its important not to totally close the door on Newt. He comes up with too many brilliant position papers for conservatives that are just too good.

Aside from that you only have to watch him destroy liberals on FNC a few times to realize that he "can" be a major resoucre for us.

His contract for America which he at least had a major part in and his energy takes are brilliant.

Would I rather see him was locked up securely in a think tank room and only let out for pizza, dam straight.

But after saying all that its important that we don't totally destroy Gingrich since he does come to his senses from time to time, its just that when he screws up they are major league blunders.

“Newt is a hack. He needs to take his ball and go home.”

Newt is more than a hack. He’s a pure opportunist who’s willing to sell out conservatives to make a few bucks. I think he’s burned a few too many bridges in the past year or so. As far as I am concerned he is past tense, yesterday’s new’s, done - stick him with a fork.

She and Michelle Bachman are pretty good. I hope Bachman might be VP or ascend to house leader. Sara is doing something smart. Avoiding over exposure, visually. And getting past Katie couric and the gang that would twist anything she might say. I still like Mitt Romney. Many think he is too liberal, but I believe he is conservative. I think being governor in Mass. , he had to bend to liberal law or resign. States have sovereign rights and laws. He respected them. So I would love to see him on the ticket as well. VP or President. I think by 2011, people will want to undo everything the Kenyan born Commander has done, even half who voted for him. Palin - Romney would be fine with me.

Sarah Palin made Newt look silly in the whole NY-23 race.

But... I cannot for the life of me figure out why she went to bat for NJ Christie. (he publicly snubbed her by turning down her help, I read somewhere).

I lost all respect for him after he sat down with Nancy on that park bench talking about Global Warming.

You pegged it. Newt is an idea guy—a think tank valedictorian. His personal qualities do not shine with the same luster. He is not a leader. He was very weak in his House leadership post—in part hamstrung by his personal failings as damning as BJ Clinton.

Do not let this camera-hound anywhere near an elective post—but do keep feeding him those late night pizzas to stoke his intermittent creative outbursts-and keep him off the streets.

I'd like to know too!

However, I got so turned off of Hannity when he had Newt on during the last run-up for 2008 - "Newt, are you going to run?? Huh? Huh? Tell us you're going to run! It got sickening.

Sean needs to start finding some original stuff.

Now after Glenn and Rush there's not much left to be said. Too often Hannity sounds like an echo chamber.

My gosh, man, Halloween is over. What a creepy thought!

Wonder if she tried to bite him? Maybe she did, and that's what affects him today.
