Great interview. “Fed-uppness” is my new favorite word!

And Fred looks great with the goatee!

Newt the snoot needs more than a spankin’. He needs to sit down, stay down, and shut up, keep his smarmy liberal-lite mouth shut.

Newt was told Dede was a Democrat in sheep’s clothing and he went on the warpath to tell us she was a great Republican candidate.

Now she proves Newt wrong and instead of saying he was wrong he digs deeper and chastises the conservatives for not supporting his Democrat.

Newt: GO AWAY

Question:

Why did Fred quit last go-round?

My guess is that the GOP is so interlarded with corruption that they just told him, "stifle yourself, it's McCain's turn, if not, you won't get yours."

If so the NY-23 is the ultimate "tipping point", a term the libs like because, well, all the other libs are saying it.

IMHO, NY-23 is the tipping point for the whole conservative reform movement.

It is hugh. I am series.

“Fred needs to have a chat with Newt.”

A chat with a big stick!

Honestly, I think Newt has ruined his credibility. If he were to come around to our way of thinking who would trust him again?

If Newt didn’t know how liberal Scozzafava (sp?) was he has no business in politics anymore (at least on the conservative side of things).

“Fred is dead to me.”

You're making a big mistake. It's not like the conservative movement has a wide variety of leaders who are credible candidates for office and excellent spokesmen (or women) for the principles that define the movement. Thompson and Palin are more or less the only names on the list. Given the dearth of talent, we have to be willing to reuse and recycle.

I HEAR you. As much as I’ve always admired Newt’s ideas in many areas, his actions regarding this issue have really surprised and concerned me.

Anything short of a sincere admission from him that he was WRONG will not change that.

Fred quit last time because he ran out of money. He was pegged with having no fire in his belly because of his late entrance in the race. This late entrance was due to his contract with NBC.

He quit last time because people believe what they hear and read and once he was tagged with "no fire in his belly," the lie took on a life of its own and no matter what his campaign schedule was like... well, he just had no fire in his belly.

He quit last time because voters want their politicians to sound as if they scripted by a Hollywood screen writer. He ummed... he uhhhed...in debates. These cues became more important than what he was saying. We want our politicians slick and glib.

It wasn't the GOP that stifled Thompson, but a lack of votes and a lack of money.

Why did Fred quit last go-round?

Short version -- he wanted to prove you didn't have to run a 2-year campaign to get the nomination. After the South Carolina primary, the one he really had to win but came in 3rd, he realized that his theory was wrong. Without a huge investment in a "ground game", the local politicos will go with the guys who have been schmoozing them for ages, and turn out their voters in large enough quantities to make the difference.

It's a shame, but the biggest lesson I got from Thompson's run in 2007/8 is that we are continuing to head into a perpetual campaign mode, where you have to be running for President no later than when the ballots were cast for the last election.
