The left and the more liberal conservatives amongst us, such as Rick Moran, are saying that Sarah Palin's statement on the Obama birth certificate is giving legitimacy to the birthers.
"Would you make the birth certificate an issue if you ran?" she was asked (around 9 minutes into the video above)."I think the public rightfully is still making it an issue. I don't have a problem with that. I don't know if I would have to bother to make it an issue, because I think that members of the electorate still want answers," she replied.
"Do you think it's a fair question to be looking at?" Humphries persisted.
"I think it's a fair question, just like I think past association and past voting records -- all of that is fair game," Palin said. "The McCain-Palin campaign didn't do a good enough job in that area."
She followed up on Facebook:
Voters have every right to ask candidates for information if they so choose. Ive pointed out that it was seemingly fair game during the 2008 election for many on the left to badger my doctor and lawyer for proof that Trig is in fact my child. Conspiracy-minded reporters and voters had a right to ask... which they have repeatedly. But at no point not during the campaign, and not during recent interviews have I asked the president to produce his birth certificate or suggested that he was not born in the United States.
And I, myself, have tried to keep the birther argument off of Flopping Aces because I believe it does the conservative cause no good. But the argument she is making is right on target. There ARE many people who want an answer to this question. Something Obama could do very quickly if he wished. She follows this up with:

Yawn.....
Fact: If Palin runs for president... she WILL WIN. Oh, and I am willing to bet $100,000 that she will not pay $1000,000 to keep her birth certificate hidden from the public.
yea... best not to ask for a Constitutional requirement. why follow those outdated scribblings from angry old white men
/sarc
it’s not like i’m asking for a psych exam (now there’s an idea!)
hell, i have to submit to more scrutiny getting onto an airplane (2 id checks, metal detector, partial strip search), and they aren’t giving me the codes to the nuclear football
sorry... it’s over $1,700,000 as of the latest report
The more the socialist media keeps talking about it the more it will be on people’s minds.
Stupid Conspiracies

So Sarah is labeling this as a "Stupid Conspiracy." There is ONE man that could show the world ONE document that lists his birth parents, their citizenship and the hospital he was born in and put this to rest.
It seems like Sarah needs to come up with another title, such as "Whacha hidin' Barack??"
Just like they are ‘defensive’ on the whole globull warming scam and calling skeptics..’deniars’..’flat-earthers’ and even going so far as suggesting that we be rounded up and put on trial for not ‘believing’ in their crap!
See the pattern?
Oh yea...for example, being accused of being a racist no longer has any meaning because liberals have so abused the real meaning of the word that it no longer has any valid meaning.
What am I missing here? I thought the ‘conspiracy minded” referred to reporters and others who bought into the rumor that Trig was Bristol’s son, not Sarah’s. She doesn’t seem to be saying that people asking for Obama’s actual birth certificate are “conspiracy minded.”
If anything, it seems she is taking as an example the most offensive, extreme questions asked about her where proof was demanded, and, by comparison, saying that something as simple as a presidential candidate’s (or president’s) birth certificate establishing eligibility is properly asked for and should be produced.
It’s as if Gov Palin can’t say ‘Good Morning” without someone asking ‘what’s so good about it?’ and/or ‘it’s not morning in XYZ.’
It's amazing how people run from a valid issue. The absurdity of the NY Times, and Congress, making an issue of McCain's birth status while Obama's is miraculously off limits is OBSCENE.
Thank you for posting this. It brings up reasonable points that other writers missed. A good read.
