Howard Zinn’s America

Deborah Lambert, December 18, 2009

America-bashers are working overtime these days to divide our nation into enemy camps. One way to describe it is a war between the country that you and I love vs. Howard Zinn’s America.

If you think that the 87-year-old Marxist professor/author of A People’s History of the United States is ready to shuffle off into the sunset, you would be wrong.

In fact, Zinn is actively spearheading an effort to “change the way our pre-K through high school children learn American history,” according to Big Hollywood.

His curriculum ideas focus on a view of history that has supposedly been kept from students, including “introducing three-year-olds to the lynching of African-Americans, or quizzing seven-year-olds on which Presidents owned slaves.

“In fact, his book and a companion volume called Voices of a People’s History of the United States, paints traditional U.S. history as a virtual scam that ignores the stories of those who have struggled against American oppression.”

Michelle Malkin is warning parents to be on the lookout: “Hollywood-backed, Marxist education project” may turn up in your child’s school.

Zinn’s propaganda project was launched with a History Channel “documentary” that featured a roster of Hollywood liberals like Matt Damon, Danny Glover, Josh Brolin, Bruce Springsteen, and more.

Zinn clearly states that he has no intention of imparting knowledge, since he claims that “there is no such thing as pure fact.” Instead, he wants to “instigate ‘change’ and nurture a political counterforce. . .”

Sound familiar?...

My mother-in-law was a dyed in the wool liberal political operator at the city level, gave me the book “A People’s History of the United States” a couple of years ago as a gift.

I admit to not being familiar with it, so when I started reading it, I thought...”WTF?” I paged through, read a couple of passages at random, then went out and threw it directly in the trash.

I don’t think my mother-in-law gave it to me maliciously, I think she just saw it on the book rack, knew I was a history buff and got it for me.

Of all characteristics that liberals display, it is the moral, historical and cultural relativism that makes me grit my teeth the hardest.
