I don’t mind the bloggers in general, just the blog pimps with their excerpts. If there’s a two line excerpt and the poster name and author name are the same I hit the back button.

Did the PM link to his blog, or did he actually write something?

My problem is all the bloggers who post to News/Activism.

Please hit abuse when you see this. Note that there are some bloggers that we do allow in News, such as Michelle Malkin and Andrew Breitbart for obvious reasons.

Sometimes as well, if what the blogger reports on is either new, breaking, and or unique that isn’t reported on in other outlets, we will sometimes move this to news. A good example of this is FReeper JVeritas’ translation of the Saddam documents.

For the most part, we do try to make sure all blogs are categorized in the bloggers section but without people reporting them, we can’t see them all. Unlike popular myth, we aren’t legion. The few of us there are can’t keep up with all the posts that are made so we strongly rely on the community.

OK, so it really isn’t allowed, right? Even if they pretend that they are not the author?

Allowed is the wrong word.. we discourage it.

Even if they pretend they aren’t the author, we really base it on the source (Wordpress, Blogspot, etc) or content. Some are harder to catch or distinguish, such as Examiner which is mostly just bloggers but it has an appearance of a higher standard than most blogs, or TownHall which is more cream of the crop bloggers that could be considered news by most sources. That’s why we discourage it but sometimes they are in news for a reason.

I need an aspirin after thinking about all that.

I should also note an exception is the religion forum. The Religion Mod has different standards as “news” sources rarely have religious based information that you could categorize in devotional type threads, for example.

Basically, what I mentioned above applies to News versus Bloggers. You’ll see a wide variety of sources accepted under religion.

I just received a PM from iloveamerica1980, who just joined FR and has been pimping his blog here.

iloveamerica1980 — I’d appreciate if you didn’t PM me to defend your blog pimping.

I received one also.

ILA, please take me off of your PM list. Thank you.

I love bloggers, and love that they do good things.

I love FreeRepublic, and know that it is the most useful when articles are posted fully here. That way, if someone moves their blog, or it goes dark, or something else happens, the article and the comments are still here.

The only reason for a blogger who belongs to FR to NOT post their entire blog entry here is because they want something out of it for themselves.

Which is fine, but it detracts from the usefulness to the forum. So you have to decide, is it more important to advance the conservative cause, or to get hits to a blog. I think the former, but some bloggers think the latter is more important.

You’ve been here since late 2009. How long have I been here?

Stop preaching at me, newby.

Just make http://www.freerepublic.com/tag/news-forum/index your default bookmark for FR and you shouldn’t see the blog posts.

That helps a bit, but some of these pimp are posting in News/Activism. Your solution also means we might miss something interesting in other forums.
