Here is video of a Salvation Army aid worker talking with MSNBC about the "absolute chaos and pandemonium" he is seeing in Haiti in the wake of the Earthquake yesterday. During the interview, the man broke down and cried saying, "it is the most horrific thing I have ever seen."
Meanwhile, the first estimates of the death toll are coming out. Haitian officials have estimated between 100,000-500,000 people may have perished, although they admit they have no way of knowing:
Haitians are piling bodies along the devastated streets of their capital after a powerful earthquake flattened the president's palace and the main prison, the cathedral, hospitals, schools and thousands of homes. Untold numbers are still trapped.
President Rene Preval says he believes thousands of people are dead even as other officials give much higher estimatesthough they were based on the extent of the destruction rather than firm counts of the dead.
His prime minister, Jean-Max Bellerive, tells CNN: "I believe we are well over 100,000," while leading senator Youri Latortue tells The Associated Press that 500,000 could be dead. Both admit they have no way of knowing.

Those poor souls. May God’s love and grace be with them in this hour of need. Thank goodness that America, once again, is the first to send aid and jump to help.
Initial reports are always of the "Sky is Falling" sort. I'm sure that things are bad, but hyperbole helps no one.
Lets get the facts sorted out, first.
I agree. We have been there. The poverty is horrible. I do believe there could be an incredible loss of life..yet, I also
believe that $$ could be lost with hysteria. Let the facts come to the surface ASAP. Again, I say, FACTS!!! Not emotion.
Haitian politics and American democrat politics have the same GOAL...
Producing a Ghetto... same goal and mentality..
Agree, well said.
I hope that these initial estimates are hugely overblown. It will probably take days to get a firmer estimate. This is what the Haitians are saying.
Our local ham radio network is reporting that they have heard that one amateur in Cap-Haitien is o.k., and brief radio contact with a long time ham in Port au Prince was made a short time ago.
Otherwise there is no contact. Ordinarily by now the airwaves would be full of communications and the ARRL would be sorting them out. There are five frequencies that have been cleared for H&W (health and welfare) traffic, but nothing is coming through.
This is very bad.
Reporter was with the Salvation Army. I’m sending money.
Do what you can. I’ll give blood in the morning — feel so helpless.
Amen. I just heard that a certain church just fired up a DC-10 full of relief supplies and is planning on a return trip after this one is complete. Also, I know America will donate money big time and the Red Cross will kick butt as usual. God bless them all.
I intend to help out financially. And I know the US will contribute heavily — though I know our meager contributions will come nowhere close to the massive infusion of capital from all of the wealthy green states in Africa that have been noble enough not to pollute the world with industrial waste.
It always amazes and dismays me that countries that are so regularly evangelized remain in squalor.
Thanks for the insights. When you hear them say that more buildings have collapsed than are left standing, you know it is very bad.
I asked this on another thread but nobody answered so I will ask here.
Why is it on every blog and youtube posting I see about Haiti today everyone keeps talking about HAARP and that HAARP caused this?
100,000 is a lot and probably the more accurate number. There were “only” some 270,000 killed in the indonesian tsunami a few years back.
2 million people in PauP. 60% of the housing is substandard. Even many of the the newer multi-story hotels are down. Limited supplies, medical, etc. for those that do survive.
I saw that on some of them as well. There was another thread where some african country was blaming HAARP for the freezing event in Europe at the moment!
Probably a lack of science understanding, blaming the west, and perhaps in Haiti, HAARP might be considered some sort of high-tech voodoo.
