I too agree that with a subscription-based model, it would eliminate the DU/Kos-trolls. + might once and for all end the quarterly freepathons.
You could also offer lifetime memberships, as well as different levels of membership. Gold, Silver, Bronze would allow members to have avatars + extra’s.
Yes, I think it a good idea whose time is upon us,many of us have been here for over 5 years, and we have a loyal following.
It also might make it harder for the DHS to intervene on a private site.
We also could have a combination of private/public.
Plus a subscription would kill much of the regular posters, and wall off free republic from recieving more trafic from people conservatives wish to influence.
Just like paywalls have done for newspaper sites.
