Only days after Secretary of Defense Robert Gates explained the systemic flaws that allowed the Nov. 5 shootings at Fort Hood to take place, I was shocked at what I saw during one television report this morning -- especially in light of what other television reports have described.
A short while ago, Fox News Channel reporter Steve Harrigan was shown standing upon a hill in Haiti where U.S. Army soldiers, which he described as members of the 82nd Airborne, were overseeing distribution of relief supplies to Haitians desperate for food, water and, in many cases, medical attention. As the camera panned the crowd from a distance of 30 to 40 feet, Harrigan described the soldiers as not carrying weapons and wearing only "camel packs" -- backpack-like water supplies. Conversely, other reports -- here and here, for example -- during the past two days have described "surging violence" and fear of violence on the part of relief group officials. And who can blame them?
The libtards have always considered the Military as a “Meals on Wheels” branch of their government.
The Marines I saw a little while ago, off loading off of hilos, are Armed to the teeth!
I remember when Clinton sent the military down there he didn’t let them have any ammo either. Or was it fifteen rounds per troop. I can’t remember.
The American soldiers on hand - members of the 82nd Airborne - showed restraint. Their helmets were off and their guns were intentionally unloaded.

You leave a lot to be desired with the above article and crytic first post.
Sorry, should be cryptic.
Thanks Bob for confirming what I myself reported earlier. I had a number of people tell me That I didn’t see or hear what I reported. I appreciate the confirmation!!
That will last until the first head wound. Then the commander on the ground will require the soldiers to sleep in their kevlars.
He was better in Gran Torino. Made me think I was watching a movie about myself in about 15 - 20 years.
Gonna put the force at a serious disadvantage should a riot ensue. I hope that they are just being discrete about it. Probably what you don’t see is the 2-man Sniper Team providing overwatch... I hope. Take out the ring-leaders early.
Hummmmmmmmm....
Army is carrying weapons too in the lead photo on nytimes.com right now. They probably arent brandishing at the distribution points as to not scare the Haitians, or some bullcrap.
Basically my thoughts as well.
Probably following the established UN model since they have been doing it fo awhile. See alot of “Blue Helmets” (Brazilians IIRC) carrying heavy iron when escorting the trucks to distribution sites. No point in having weapons where thugs in the crowd could suddenly grab them while the soldier’s hands were full handing out supplies. The security element is still nearby to handle any out-of-control situation that might arise.
Considering the current level of actual battle experience in the 82nd Airborne Division and 2nd Marine Division, it would be extremely stupid to get into any kind of shooting match with them.
To quote “Mr. T”, “I pity the fool...”
Why are they unarmed? Because Hussein does not want one of our evil Marines to defend his life by killing a future democrat voter!

It may also be worth reminding folks of all of the horror stories that the media released about violence in New Orleans following Katrina — the ones that turned out to be false. You know — gangs shooting at the National Guard, hundreds of dead in the Superdome — those stories.
I would not be surprised to learn after the fact that stories about Hatian violence were similarly . . . embellished. You know — if it bleeds, it leads.
