Citing the need to take stronger measures against cyber warfare, Craig Mundie, chief research and strategy officer for Microsoft, demanded that access to the Internet be restricted to licensed drivers.
We wouldnt let a person get behind the wheel of a car without a license, so why should we allow just anyone with a computer to cruise the web? Mundie asked.
Mundie contended that by screening those who want to use the Internet, governments could dramatically reduce the incidence of hostile actions against them. Making those who want to use the web prove they are no threat to the government before they are allowed onto it is a common-sense security procedure.
The prospect that those with malevolent intentions toward governments or anyone else might fraudulently obtain Internet users licenses or simply hack onto the web without a license is something we havent yet gotten a handle on, Mundie admitted. The out-and-out criminal or saboteur is a tough one, kind of like the convicted felon who cant legally own a gun, but manages to commit a crime with one anyway. Nevertheless, weve got to start cracking down somewhere.

Non-sequiter of the year award...who is THIS doofus?
lol
O shit...ya got me...
If it weren’t for the keywords, I would have bought it hook, line and sinker.
HEY...are you tryinng to cause me to have a stroke....geez.
How about we make the presidency a licensed position, and give tests to potential candidates, if they pass, they can run, if they fail, they’re outta here!!!
This is a great idea!!
Just like how licensing firearms has eliminated gun crimes and murder!!
Too bad for Microsoft that a bad joke like this makes people say, “Could this be true?”
I'm still not convinced it isn't. Somewhere, some basement-dwelling departement of homeland security lackey is reading this and thinking "crap, they're onto us". Belive it folks, pretty soon this "net neutrality" and DMCA bogus will ensura that the only sites available on the internet will be espn.com and whatever whitehouse-equivalent of Pravda and you'll pay triple what you pay for full cable. We'll all be looking jealously at China and marvel at their internet freedom.
This is how the democrats float trial balloons...........be weary........be very very weary!!!
Trying to push the old “you’ll have to give up some of your freedom to be protected” ruse, Mr Semmens?
The news is really giving you many opportunities for satire lately.
So which brandy goes well with laughter?
