According to the Recovery.org website, Sumter, S.C. received $15,827,385 of our tax money. According to the same site, this money was credited with creating or saving 4.91 jobs.
Were did the money go?
The county of Sumter got $62,400. The city of Sumter got $253,828.
The Santee-Wateree RTA got in excess of $1,000,000.
The Santee Lynches regional Council of Governments got $3,103,434 for one grant and another $112,017 for a second.
Then it gets interesting.
Wateree Community Action Inc is awarded $700,000.
Then awarded $1,076,865.
Then awarded $6,435,805.
Then awarded $429,049.
Then awarded $244,800.
Then awarded $2,073,186.
Sumter County has one of the highest unemployment rates in S.C.
Maybe Jim Clyburn, John Spratt, Bob Inglis, Joe Wilson, Henry Brown, and Gesham Barrett could look into this.
Where the stimulus money went misssing.
FReep mail me if you want on/off the list.

Wateree Community Action Inc
I figure I should ping you two.
Probably one of those outfits that somehow manages to waste $28,000 to weatherize your house with $30 worth of caulk and $250 worth of attic insulation.
5 jobs...
Somebody got rich.
This site of "South Carolina Association of Community Action Partnerships" actually lists some names of Watertree directors)
Heres is Cedric Kirkman's (AKA "polar bear") myspace page. He is listed on the above site as part of Watertree.
Some other names to research:

Wateree Community Action, Executive Director
Mrs. Fredrica Brailsford
Ms. Rebecca Duncan
Mr. Howard Parnell

Wow! I wonder how much grant money it took for Wateree Community Actions to put together that amazing list of liberal BS cliches?
Thanks!

I would swear that was Obamas’ teleprompter speaking.

"Wateree Community Action Agency, Inc.
Mr. Willie Lee Bethune, Executive Director"
Here is a South Carolina court action against "Former Clarendon County Magistrate Willie L. Bethune" for a sex scandal with a female defendant.
If its the same guy, we may have the first piece of dirt on this. Will check in later, good luck fellow freepers on the hunt!
There’s a very telling letter here from 1993, during which Mrs. Fredrica Brailsford complains that a newspaper photograph did not contain enough black people:
Thanks. Bump.
"Bevis became the administrative director of the Pee Dee Mental Health Center (the Center), a branch of the South Carolina Department of Mental Health (the Department), in July 1984. He was promoted to executive director of the Center in 1985 and served in that position for nearly seventeen years. (J.A. at 279.) After an investigation revealed serious procurement violations at the Center, Bevis announced his voluntary retirement, effective November 2001."
----snip---
"Willie Bethune who became Beviss supervisor"
So now we have a sex scandal and procurement violations! (Sigh...I really wanted to go to bed-lol)

Go to bed.
I need to as well.
I will peruse tomorrow.
Appears the magistrates middle name is Lee as well:

Still not 100% confirmation. Could be 2 different Willie Lee Bethune’s. Need to connect this Willie Lee Bethune magistrate (with the sex scandal) to the Watertree Executive director Willie Lee Bethune.
Seriously, its 2:40! Goodnight!
Cya!

... Hmm ... looks like someone’s getting backdoor reparations.
I just wonder who.
I priced insulation for my old house.
I cannot afford it.
Nobody came and offered it to me.
I would be willing to take $40,000 worth of insulation.
I could do my house right and continue down the the street.
All the houses on Wren would be Obama complient.
And it would create a second job for me.
Good catch!
Get out of bed! There is work to do! LOL
Cmon Freepers, its all there-google the people, look for links! Try to 100% show the judge is or isn’t the executive.
I’ll be off this till after 3:15. Good hunting folks!
My info is correct so far but It should be spelled “Wateree” not “Watertree”
Money was funneled to company called KQC and its president Hal Kaplan. Apparently Kaplan has a long history of this type of construction for the Head Start program there.
Note: You need to scroll to the right side of that newspaper to see the article. Its just to the left of the photo and is entitled “Building A Future”.
Now that we know Bethune’s background is in mental health, it would appear he is in fact the same Bethune mentioned in the previous link in the Pee-Dee mental health lawsuit.
I must be coming late to the party. What is this organization accused of doing? What crime are we investigating? Did I miss an article or news story?
According to the Recovery.org website, the group got about 10 million and created...5 jobs. Jet asked us to check to see who they are/connections, etc.
The "connections" will be interesting, but the basic gist of this is disgusting ... $15,000,000 for 5 jobs ... PLLLLEEEEZZZEE ... and they want a second $timulus? I didn't refer to any "connections" as we are far from confirming anything yet.
The Recovery.gov site is amazing ... every time you click on one of those dots you "light up" with anger. Want to make people angry enough to "do something?" Give them that link and show them how it works.
I hope MANY other bloggers pick this up so we can get this "small" example out to people so they will start checking Recovery.gov for what's happening in THEIR back yard. I'm from S.C. so this one is in MY back yard!
Well done.
Thank you for getting the word out.
Bump.
Many branches of WCA according to google.
Horry County, S.C.
Interesting facts:
$31,048,796 to the Transportation Dept. created/saved 32.56 jobs
Then:
$381,910 to Waccamaw Economic Opportunity Council, Inc. created/saved 2 jobs
$849,833 to Waccamaw Economic Opportunity Council, Inc. created 0 jobs.
$1,196,224 to Waccamaw Economic Opportunity Council, Inc. created 0 jobs.
$3,719,833 to Waccamaw Economic Opportunity Council, Inc. created 0 jobs.
So $6,147,800 to WEOC to create or save 2 jobs.
Charleston County north:
St. James-Santee Family Health Cehnter (sic) Inc.
Awarded $188,582
Awarded $436,375
Jobs created/saved = zero.
Great stuff in this thread ... fascinating to read it. Thanks to all.
