Yesterday a friend and I had a meeting together in the valley. I arrived before he did, so I decided to sit outside and wait since it was such a beautiful day. As I sat in the sun, I saw a women chatting with a gentleman a few feet away. I thought I recognized her, but was not sure.
I saw my friend approaching, so I got up and walked towards him. As I passed the woman, I got a good look and realized I was looking at Sarah Palin. I hugged my friend and we turned to walk into the building. I then stopped, turned around, and walked back towards her.
Let me begin by saying that Sarah Palin is beautiful. Not just pretty, but beautiful. She has great hair, fabulous teeth, magnificent skin, and a killer body. She is tiny, feminine, and stunning. She is very approachable, so I decided to introduce myself, and say hello.
She was standing there with Mark Burnett, who I think is fabulous. We all know I am a reality television junky, and think he is King, but I was so blown away by how much fun she was to talk to, that I barely said hello to a man who I think totally rocks. Note to self for next time, never give up an opportunity to talk to Mark Burnett.
To clarify, I dont agree with her politics. We are polar opposite in terms of our political, and religious views. That said, her politics and beliefs have nothing to do with my blog. This is America and she can believe what she wants, as can everyone else, myself included. I approached her because I like her as a woman. We are both ballsy ladies, and mothers.
I introduced myself and told her that I thought she was entertaining on Leno the night before. I dont actually watch Leno, and never will again, but I had seen a ton of clips online. Sidebar: Jay Leno is a baby, and a putz, and I hope Conan has sweet success and revenge.
So anyway, I tell her that I think she is a hoot, and while we are very different in our political views, I think she is a great broad, and I would enjoy hanging out with her. I love her as a woman, which is hard for people who feel strongly about her politics, to understand.
She asked me what my name was, what I did for a living, what my deal was in general. I told her about my kid, my blog, and my search for love. She asked for the link to my blog so she could read it, and mentioned that her sister was also in her 40s, single, and looking for love.
We spoke about how hard it is to be single, and she related because her sister is in the same boat. I wonder what is harder to do: find a nice Jewish guy in Los Angeles, who is not looking for a Barbie? Or finding a nice guy in Wasilla, Alaska, where everyone knows everyone? Both are small pools, but I think my chances are slimmer.
In speaking with her, I quickly forgot who she was in terms of her work, and what she stands for, and was able to see her as just another woman. It was like being with a girlfriend. She was funny and engaging. I must tell you, I liked her. At the risk of sounding too Californian, she has a good energy, and made me feel instantly comfortable.
We talked about glasses and purses. I asked her if we could take a picture and she was lovely. Someone from her group took the picture, and as he was getting the phone ready, I told her I normally take off my glasses for pictures, and she said, Dont you dare! It was a great moment.
She wished me well, gave me a hug and told me she would look at the blog and pass the link onto her sister. To her sister Molly McCann, hello! Your sister is fantastic, and looking out for you. We need to compare notes about being single, and the struggles to meet good, decent men.
My encounter with Ms. Palin was unexpected, and very enlightening. Women have a lovely connection to each other. We may not have the same experiences, or viewpoints, but we can relate to each other. Parallels can be drawn between most women, even on the smallest of levels. It is a sisterhood that is understood, and embraced.
We get caught up a lot on religion and politics. I know I do, and am quite opinionated about my point of view. At the end of the day however, I just liked her. We could not be more opposite in terms of our beliefs and politics, but she is a great lady, and nobody can take that away from her. While I wont be voting for her, ever, she has my admiration as a woman, and as a mother.
So Ms. Palin, apart from being annoyed that you are so skinny, pretty, funny, and have a yummy husband, I dug you, and it was a pleasure to meet you. Im sending good wishes to Molly that she meets her Prince Charming. For you and your family, my son, myself, the troops, and for America, I will continue to keep the faith.
Wow a decent liberal. Where is the hell sign with the ice cycles?
Sometimes I think Americans are the most shallow people on Earth.
Since when did it become the norm to shoot down anyone that has a thought that is different than ones own.
I applaud the author for having sense to see past the forest to see what it actually contains
I am curious why she thinks she is so different than Palin religiously.
I know Palin is not Jewish, but is not supposed to be, and Jewish people, by definition, are not concerned with non-Jewish people’s religion (to the extent it is Noahadic, which Chrisitanity certainly is).
Palin has certainly proven herself tolerant (or even supportive) of Jewish beliefs. The Chabad (hardasses) in Alaska were very complimentary of her.
Did the author expound on this?
From what I understand, this happens A LOT with her.
Her detractors are completely disarmed by her charms when they meet her. Reagan had the same qualities.
I saw Sarah up close at a rally here in CA last year. I have some great close up pics. She is indeed very beautiful.
Thanks! Do you know if that is really a place or if this is photoshopped?
Lol! Icicles not ice cycles. LOL!
Well, the world must be changing, and the Palin Media Attacks must not be working.....STILL
it in Michigan.
Thanks I guess I could have done that but I have the flu and I am lazy today. :)
What a refreshing read!
Since when did it become the norm to shoot down anyone that has a thought that is different than ones own.The late Murray Kempton---precisely that kind of gracious liberal (and maybe the last American liberal whose brains didn't go to bed; he was actually the first on either side of the ideological street to score the Clintons as the liars they were even before Droopy-Drawers was elected to the White House)---would have appreciated this lady.
I applaud the author for having sense to see past the forest to see what it actually contains
I saw her at a rally here in Asheville when she was running for VP. I can tell you the audience (men and women) were enthralled with her. She has a way of connecting to regular people. I am reading her book and she is much smarter than libs give her credit for.
Liberals are so funny.
Come to think of it, would I get annoyed too if some conservative met 0bama somewhere, had a chat with him, and thought he was a pleasant fellow to talk to? I would hope I'd be above all that.
My wife is a HUGE fan. She read Sarah’s book, too, and is 100% behind her.
I liked the comment about her “lack of intelligence and her idiocy”.
Let’s be honest... so is the right.
I’m betting this is a giant lie. Perhaps unintentional but just wrong.
Does this woman believe you can spend your way to prosperity?
Does she believe in killing what grows in the uterus?
Does she believe in God?
There are literally thousands of points where the sisterhood I’m quite sure are as alike as the two proverbial peas in the pod. Hence my contention.
We could not be more opposite in terms of our beliefs and politics,
Excuse me I forgot her point in being so opposite of Sarah.
Don’t know, but a lot of the abuse she took from her own side sounds very much like that heaped on Scott Brown after the “jobs” bill vote. Just sayin’
Bill Clinton had the same effect on people! One of those personalities that's just difficult to resist.
Sarah Palin going to be tough to defeat if she sets her mind on the White House. Thank God, literally!
First Jon Stewart; now this?
“Lets be honest... so is the right.”
I thing you are wrong on this, because the right does not own the media, and the right has not owned the media for a long, long, time. For this reason, every time the right is intolerant, it is stomped on, hard, in the media. Intolerance on the left, on the other hand, is encouraged in the media.
Never mind the sign, I thought there were ‘’rules’’ here?
Not sure I understand your post.
“Rules’’. Shouldn’t there be a picture of Sarah Palin in the thread?
Very nice, thought it was a shame she kept having to mention over and over that she did not agree with her politically. Once would have been enough. But she knew she would take a drubbing by her leftie peers. But all in all, the author of this seems decent. I am sure she was surprised that Palin wasn’t the monster that she is made out to be by the left.
I think you’re wrong about me being wrong.
We can agree to disagree.
Oh I see. Lol!
Of course we can. Why did you pick the screen name of mark twain.
He had wit and could turn a phrase. As I have read more of his work, my admiration has become tempered with the knowledge that he was a cutting edge “progressive” for his time.
Bless your heart, thanks .
I had to go to a restore point over that.
I was trying to pull another pic off some celebrity gossip site, and wound up with an infobox ‘are you human’ that only a restore killed.
Careful where you go.
Ok, thanks for the heads up. You do have to be careful when accessing links as I understand that sometimes viruses ‘’piggyback’’ on them.
heck, Sarah was Miss Congeniality at that beauty pageant for a reason. I shook her hand at a book signing. Totally disconcerted by how small her hand is—dumb reaction—but she is totally at ease with the strangers she meets. To give a comparison, went to a book singing with Jamie Lee Curtis, who is the most unaffected celebrity I have ever met. But to a degree, she was acting. Palin was different. Her responses were not at all mannered.
You can’t teach it.........Sarah has it..........
Well, it IS self-taught. Part of this is that she went the route of girls’ sports.
No way in hell is this statement true. There is absolutely NO connection shared with the likes of Jezebels like Pelosi, Clinton, Boxer, Napolitano, etc. And I would rather stick a fork in my eye than to ever speak with any of these evil witches. The only connection I would like to have is the one where I am reading about them in the obituary column.
Other than that...it was a decent column. :)
