Medicare Part B Therapy Caps: A Preview of Life under Obamacare

Many Americans are justifiably leery about health care reform, fearing that reforms will lead to arbitrary government rationing of health care, denial of services, and choice taken from consumers and placed under government control. What many Americans may not know, however, is that we don't have to wait for Obamacare to experience these effects. These conditions hang over the lives of the institutionalized elderly due to Medicare Part B therapy caps.

Some definitions will help clarify the discussion. Medicare Part A is an entitlement program offered to Americans who have reached age 65, or those with certain medical conditions such as end-stage renal disease of blindness. Medicare Part B, on the other hand, is an insurance which must be purchased by the consumer, who pays a monthly premium of $96.40 to obtain the benefits. Medicare Part B covers such services as durable medical equipment, ambulance, and physical, occupational, and speech therapy.

Well, I understand where the author’s going, but you can’t get “everything” for as long as you want/need under most insurance plans. We’ve always had very good group medical, and there is a limit on the number of times we can see a physical therapist, or other type of therapist (speech, occupational, etc.) in any given year.

PLEASE ASK THEM TO REPEAL THE BIG NEW FEES in TRICARE for Life, the retired Military over 65 secondary health ins. which they passed in a DOD bill. They promised our Military these benefits, and our Military have earned them.

Rename, repackage, rewrite it a tad smaller, and sell another pig in a poke. NO COLAs for granny, retired Military or retired fed employees. BIG NEW fees for Tricare for Life retired over 65 Military’s secondary health ins. (DOD bill already passed, delayed but goes into effect 2011 NEEDS TO BE REPEALED!

Tricare fee increases imposed last week by the Defense Department will be repealed by a provision of the compromise 2010 defense authorization bill unveiled Wednesday by House and Senate negotiators.

The fee increases were announced on Sept. 30 and took effect on Oct. 1, but the defense bill, HR 2647, includes a provision barring any fee increases until the start of fiscal 2011.

Retired Army Maj. Gen. Bill Matz, president of the National Association for Uniformed Services, said the announcement of fee increases was shocking considering that the Obama administration promised earlier this year to hold off on any new fee Tricare fee increases until fiscal 2011.

“President Obama and DoD assured NAUS and the entire military family earlier this year that there would rightly be no increases in any Tricare fees” in fiscal 2010, Matz said. “We took them at their word, and I can’t believe that a co-pay increase like this was allowed to go forward,” he added.

With the whacking of $500B from Medicare we seniors KNOW what will happen to our health care. Despite the fact we pay premiums, that will go up, while service goes down.

And it’s not just Seniors, the health ins for retired Military over 65 is getting socked with BIG NEW FEES..TAXES!
