New York Post: Truman, Ike, Reagan: Next Up, Sarah Palin!
Citizen Palin 4 President ^ | Ralph Peters

Posted on 03/17/2010 7:46:25 AM PDT by MaxCUA

THE ISSUE: Whether presidential candidates today have character, as their predecessors did. In looking for a president with the character of Dwight Eisenhower, Harry Truman and Ronald Reagan, Ralph Peters asks, "Will we ever again have a president who didn't go to an Ivy League school, who knows what it's like to struggle -- as so many Americans struggle every day -- and who's tasted defeat, but got back in the ring with his dukes up?" ("Why Our 'Post-Modern Presidents' Fail,").

The answer is "yes." Her name is Sarah Palin. etc...

You’re right, I was wrong. It was 223 million that was never returned to the US taxpayers.

I'm right and you're still a liar and a smear merchant of the highest order.

Murkowski set aside $113 million for that bridge and HE spent the rest Bob, not Sarah Palin.

Of the $113 million, only $36 million was actually spent on it before Palin was able to kill it.

Even the DNC posted this info on their website after Sarah was nominated for VP. When the MSM started the Bridge uproar that your brother Howard Kurtz gleefully joined in, they pulled the page. Charles Johnson at LGF archived the page and still has it here. HERE'S THE DNC QUOTE:

The Gravina Island Bridge initially received $223 million in 2005 via earmarks by Alaska Senators Ted Stevens and Lisa Murkowski. The bridge would have connected Ketchikan, Alaska with its local airport on nearby Gravina Island (population 50). Congress stripped the earmark after a national uproar about it but appropriated the money anyway for unspecified transportation uses. Former Gov. Frank Murkowski’s administration set aside about $113 million of the appropriation for the Ketchikan bridge. However, Gov. Sarah Palin said the $398 million bridge was $329 million short of full funding, and only $36 million in federal funds were set aside for it. She said it was clear Congress had little interest in spending any moremoney for it and that the state had higher priorities.
So, Palin canceled the project because she didn’t want to pony up any Alaskan sheckles for it AND after it became a political hot football, then stole the 233 million advanced from the US taxpayer.

Stop being a pathetic, lowlife, Palin-deranged moonbat, Bob.

I think more people can relate to Sarah’s life more then Reagan’s.

Well, it's kind of hard for ordinary Joes to relate to the life of a movie star.

Just insults (and ones that make no sense at that). Can't you defend your statements of "fact" with facts? Is this how you're going to convince people that Palin is worthy to be held in higher estemm than RWR, that she belongs up there with Washington? By insulting them?

I guess it's tough when reality crashes your party and people ask real questions.

You have three options of reply...

1. Insult again.

2. Refuse to reply

3. Actually defend your statements of fact with detailed facts.

I know that number three is not really an option but, what the heck...

“Second, you need to look at Palin’s record of state accomplishments...”

Please educate me. The only two things I could find that stand out are her negotiations with the oil companies, most of which (and I say most, not all) I think were commendable. The second was that disastrous ethics legislation that she championed that was so poorly written it ended being the tool with which her opponents took her down. That discussion deserves a thread all of it's own.

“...her high rating with her constituents...”

Why wouldn't her rating be high after she doubled the amount of the checks the state wrote directly to the voters? I love this discussion about her approval ratings. They were in the low eighties when she was giving them free money but once the scandal involving her ex brother in law were fleshed out they dropped precipitously. When she left office after only 2 years they had gone from the 80’s to the low 50’s.

Do you REALLy want to talk about Palin’s approval ratings and why hey dropped so much so quickly?

...watched her go against the corrupt local politics & win...watched her fight the corruption in her own party & win”.

Please enlighten me on this. Palin supporters keep talking about how she went after corruption and put a bunch of people behind bars but my research shows that investigation was started and conducted by the Justice Department and the FBI. The investigation started years bfore she was Governor and the indictments were handed down BEFORE Palin was sworn in or right around there. Palin had NOTHING to do with this investigation that Palinsistas give her credit for.

Please show me where I am wrong about this. BTW - Couldn't Palin find at last ONE corrupt democrat to go after? Are there no sleazy dems in Alaska? Why was Palin’s complete and total focus on republicans?

People need to ask them self this question because the answer tells a lot about Palin and how she rose to power.

“...then watched her become one of the best Governors I've seen up here.”

I understand she is you're friend, but could you please define what “best Governor” means to you?

“I'm sure in your state, you all prefer letting the crooks in government steal it all though.”

I'm concerned about how the State of Alaska and it's Governors steal from the taxpayers in the other 49 states.

“We had a flood, washed half the town away at ice out. Palin flew in, walked all over the community by herself, no film crew or news people, just her style. She then jumped on a 4 wheeler and rode out a mud bog trail 7-8 miles by herself to visit the Indians who had lost everything they ever owned.”

So what. I don't have a desperate need for a President that knows how to drive a 4 wheeler. I want one that knows how to navigate the Byzantine halls of getting legislation passed or the treacherous waters of foreign policy.

I don't want a President that “is just like me”, I want one that's a whole lot smarter and more experienced. And I absolutely don't want one that is just like what I see as her supporters here. That scares the hell out of me.

“That's how for real Sarah Palin is.”

Palin is a politician. She lies, cheats and steals to get elected. Anyone treating their politicians differently are in for a bruising. My concern is you're blindness and devotion to what you believe is some kind of political messiah is going to get all of us bruised pretty badly.

“I'd vote for Palin if she was a dang democrat”

Tell sme all I need to know.

“...that's how honorable she is, one of a kind and I wish she was still our governor.”

Half of the voters of Alaska disagree with you.

“Polls taken in 2007 showed her with 93% and 89% popularity among all voters ...”

Then why did her popularity drop to the low 50’s by the time she resigned?

BTW - I think ANY Governor that writes a check over 3000 to each and every resident would get a 80-90% approval rating. How dumb do you think everyone is?

As I wrote...you have nothing at all to support your statements of "fact". You know it. I know it. Anyone who reads this exchange knows it.

That is the problem with all of you guys who blindly push Palin as the last best hope for America...when the real questions get asked you all respond with insults.

Bob J — I bet that toxic smear PR campaign against Sarah must have cost many millions just in Alaska. Nationwide — many tens of millions. Vicious smear campaigns work ESPECIALLY well against the young and virtuous. It takes twenty solid years of somewhat famous public virtue to build up an immunity to them.

But part of it was also Sarah’s willingness to use up poll credits to get difficult initiatives underway.

” She said it was clear Congress had little interest in spending any moremoney for it and that the state had higher priorities.”

All this proves is that if Pain couldn’t suck off he teat of the taxpayers of the lower 49 for that bridge than she wasn’t interested in spending Alaskan tax money on an Alaskan bridge that Alaskans would be using.

In otherwordss, “if you’re not going to give it to us, then I’ll pick up my ball and go home.”

How fiscally conservative.

Not at all. I just know that the kinda vile dogies you are housing are never satisfied no matter how much you feed them.

I can see good in Reagan. Even greatness.

But you can see nothing but a mirror of some internal grudge about G-d knows what when you look at Palin, imo.

Just as I replied to wtc411 :
... just know that the kinda vile dogies you are housing are never satisfied no matter how much you feed them.

So it is that a few decent bits from a somewhat junk source is GOOD ENOUGH for the likes of your current distemper.

If I lived in Arizona I’d vote JDH. But I appreciate Palin’s sense of loyalty. McCain is a real American, a hero at times, and a real character too. He’s been too long in DC by too many years though.

“But part of it was also Sarah’s willingness to use up poll credits to get difficult initiatives underway.”

And what “difficult initiatives” were those?

Please, I want to be educated.

And is Palin’s endorsement and active campaigning and raising cash for McCain one of those “willingness to use up poll cedits” for the “fifficult initiative” of playing politics as usual to curry favor with the GOP elite and help her get the GOP nomination in ‘12?

Palin the “rogue” is now “Palin the business as usual” as long as it benefits her personally. People escuse this as “honoring her committment to McCain” and all I keep thinking to myself is why she isn’t honoring her committment to her supporters, her conservative ideology and even more important her public statements about cleaning congress of the RINO’s that are standing in the way?

Please explain to me, how is McCain any different than Scozzafava? I’ll tell you how, it was easy to throw Scozzfava under the bus because she was a lightweight and had nothing to offer Palin. McCain is powerful and important and she needs his support if she is to make a run at the presidency.

So Palin tosses her (and our) ideals under the bus because for Palin it’s all about Palin.

I can see good in Reagan. Even greatness.

His accomplishments in the California Water Project, one of the great engineering feats of all time, dwarfed Palin's Bridge-to-Nowhere/Road-to-Nowhere fiascos.

Put up or shut up.

When I read: "I've got the answers but don't feel like telling you", I'm reminded of talking to my eight year old when he knows that he doesn't actually have the answer.

Everybody here sees through that. We all know that if you had facts (real ones that can be proved) then you would run with them. You don't so you don't.

Everybody can do their own research, if they have an honest motive, they will out the truth for themselves. I can not do that for them or for you.
