It is difficult to overstate the ramifications of Obamacare. There is an economic component (i.e. insolvency for America). There is a political component (e.g. Republican gains in November, but difficulty in undoing Obamacare). There is a legal component (i.e. Attorneys General of multiple states suing the federal government and challenging the Constitutionality of Obamacare). There is a focus component (e.g. every election from here until Kingdom Come will revolve around Obamacare, how to steal more and mitigate the damage).
The most profound component of Obamacare is how it changes the relationship of the American people to their government. In places like China, people fear the government. In places like Somalia, people fear the lack of a coherent government. In places like Western Europe, people have a different and telling relationship to their government, one that we will soon understand and one that goes deeply against the American example of responsive republican government.
In Western Europe the slaughter of two World Wars gave way generally to a welfare state that coddles the individual while stifling individuality. A political elite made all of the key choices for the people. In places like France, slow economic growth and high unemployment are understood as tradeoffs for a "cradle to grave" welfare state that never lets anyone get too rich (except for the state) or too poor.
The problem is that this cradle to grave welfare state infantilizes the people, destroying initiative. In places like Belgium, the smartest move for a young person to make is to get a government job. You can never be fired (of course, now you can never be fired from private businesses either, but they never hire anymore), and you can spend you months and months of yearly vacation sipping cappuccinos in nice street cafes. To start with, it is estimated that a federal bureaucracy of more than 150,000 new employees will be required to administer HB3200. That is an unacceptable expansion of a government that is already too intrusive in our lives. If we are going to hire 150,000 new employees, let’s put them to work protecting our borders, fighting the massive drug problem and putting more law enforcement/firefighters out there.”
JUDGE KITHIL continued: “Other problems I have with
this bill include:
** Page 50/section 152: The bill will provide insurance
to all non-U.S. residents, even if they are here illegally.
** Page 58 and 59: The government will have
real-time access to an individual’s bank account and will have the authority to make electronic fund transfers from those accounts.
** Page 65/section 164: The plan will be subsidized (by
the government) for all union members, union retirees and for community organizations (such as the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now - ACORN).
** Page 203/line 14-15: The tax imposed under this
section will not be treated as a tax. (How could anybody in their right mind come up with that?)
** Page 241 and 253: Doctors will all be paid the same
regardless of specialty, and the government will set all doctors’ fees.
** Page 272. section 1145: Cancer hospital will ration
care according to the patient’s age.
** Page 317 and 321: The government will impose a
prohibition on hospital expansion; however, communities may petition for an exception.
** Page 425, line 4-12: The government mandates
advance-care planning consultations. Those on Social Security will be required to attend an “end-of-life planning” seminar every five years. (Death councelling.)
** Page 429, line 13-25: The government will specify
which doctors can write an end-of-life order.
HAD ENOUGH???? Judge Kithil then goes on:
“Finally, it is specifically stated that this bill will not apply to members of Congress. Members of Congress are already exempt from the Social Security system, and have a well-funded private plan that covers their retirement needs. If they were on our Social Security plan, I believe they would find a very quick ‘fix’ to make the plan financially sound for their future.”

I will still fight, especially in November. However, I also know enough to know when a cause is over. What America was is almost certainly gone. We must still fight so that we can say we did everything possible.
All I can say is, Thank God our founders didn’t take this sorry ass defeatist attitude!

2) I still remember how, when I first came to Europe in the early 1980s, I was incensed at being forced to purchase health insurance in order to study at a university. (Of course, the monthly premium was laughably low, but still.) When I explained to fellow students that I hadn't been insured in the U.S., they would, in their puzzlement, ask how I paid my dental, medical etc. bills, whereupon I would simply open up my wallet and show them the cash I carried around with me.
The thought simply never occurred to them that one could care for one's self.
I've decided to give up trying to explain this to them - it's simply a matter of having an alien mentality.

I notice that the bullet points in the post reference HB3200. Are these stipulations also in the just passed Senate bill? Is there some place we can go to find similar bullet points from the just passed mess with page references that we can show our liberal “friends” who supported this?

Lets not overstate things. America is not dead and has bounced back in the past from terrible legislation. Can we this time? I hope so but don’t count out the nation yet particularly given the mood of the public and what that portends for the next election cycle. We also have some good voices on the Supreme Court too.

That must be a very outdated post by Judge Kithil. HR 3200 was the old house bill that included the public option and a bunch of other stuff that was thrown out.
The bill passed last night was the Senate bill which was a lot different and is H.R. 3590 and specifies U.S. citizenship as necessary to be benefit from the provisions.
