The gays used to have their own Yellow Pages (I don’t know if they still do)... a lot of groups do this. I would rather shop/pay/give a good Conservative my money-esp. a small business.

I think it’s also a good idea to help freeper employers fire liberals and replace them with conservative employees.

I was just informed my 10.5 years with my current company is about to end (unless I can find another opening for myself). I'm a computer systems admin with a focus on network security, access control, and management. CiscoSecure ACS, OpenView, etc.

I believe a FReepers' website dedicated to job searches, product and services marketing, and all things work/job related would be a huge benefit to our community. I know if I was an employer, I'd most definitely make the FReeper job site one of my first places to look for talent.

That’s a great idea! I’d love to give my business to businesses owned by Freepers! I wonder if any freepers have online businesses.

I used to work in a large IT dept. for a US company (HQd in Ireland, no less). I was thrown out of work last year.

Just thinking...but I wonder what would occur in a large company if the entire - and I mean ENTIRE - IT dept. walked off the job and stayed out for an entire month?

By "ENTIRE" I mean from the CIO down....everybody.

What would the company be like after one month?

The reason given - and signed "the IT Dept." - would be simple and direct. "This is in protest of the socialization of the US healthcare industry".

Just curious

Let's see....."no employer can discriminate in hiring based on race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, age, marital status, or the presence of a medical condition or disability."

This - from our dear friends at the EEO - says nothing at all regarding "political affiliation" or "philosophical viewpoint" ....

So....it would appear that a Freeper employer could search for and employ a Freeper employee with impunity.

Man, I miss printing. I was on the mechanical side of things, not composing. The job was ideal in more than the pay & benefits, though I surely appreciated that as well. I loved the physical activity of slinging those 10-ream paper boxes.

Now I’m a security guard holding onto my home tooth and nail at less than a third of what I used to earn. Too stubborn to give up my place.

Near Statesville & Greensboro, NC.

Thank you for posting this thread, GregB!

I think that’s a great idea. If there is a thread on this already, I’d like to read it.

My husband lost his job last year, and we are going the capitalist route and starting a business. If anyone out there in the Fort Worth, TX area would like a job, please contact me.

We in Indiana County, Pa have been somewhat lucky. We have not been hit as hard as other places in the country. My husband’s bank is usually hiring, though the pay isn’t the greatest. But the cost of living is a bit lower around here. Also, his bank didn’t take bailout money. They are thriving.

Thanks for comments about printing side of things.

I composed a 3,000 page beast from a database and created all the promotions the same way. Also took them through the web transition. Created all the web images and extended them to the item level for the web order system. 37,000 SKU’s.

For print I used Quark with Xdata plugin to stream the text and images into the documents. Used my on computer hack for extracting items sequence, page number, and parent/child item relationship from final .pdf document. This allowed me to repeat a promotion or catalog section and recover the previous sequencing. Then I only had to place the new items since the last printing to organize the new document. I used PdfTK, Grep and some Excel plugins to do this. Totally my own solution.

It took me 2 years to get us off a proprietary system that was costing us $1,500 per month for page formatting. And that product was not editable after importing into Quark.

Sorry for the war stories, but it was my life for past 5-1/2 years. I was able to telecommute the past 1-1/2 year, liked that.
