When I read the news on March 18, I was ashamed to call myself an American, ashamed to admit that Barack Obama was my president.

Forgive me God, but I hate my government!
Well, Newsweek did proclaim we are all socialists now. USA R.I.P.

In High School, a friend had a shortwave radio. He listened to Radio Moscow to understand the sort of drivel they were putting out. On the 20th anniversary of VE Day, Radio Moscow had an essay contest on “Why the Soviet Union Was Able to Defeat Nazism”. My friend wrote back that the Soviet contribution was made possible by Lend-Lease and the United States providing a second front via the Normandy invasion. The propaganda ministry was apparently almost apoplectic and actually wrote him back to “correct” him.
Kinda like “O” going to Iowas to sell a bill that has already been turned into law. You just have to ask “why?” if the original premise is so sound.
This year as “guests”.
Next year as captives.
Subsequent years as curiosities.
You misinterpret the “relationship” on display here. We’re being welcomed into the fold, Da?
Actually, the Soviet Union set off WW II with the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact, which gave National Socialist Germany a free hand to invade Poland, then western Europe. The USSR then collaborated in the rape of Poland. Stalin gloated over his "brilliance" in turning the Nazis loose on the western democracies.
Britain and France went to war to restore the independence to Poland, but the war ended with only Stalin really winning, because all of E. Europe plus much of Germany were then in the Soviet empire. In terms of long-term strategic consequences, the Nazis were effectively facilitators of Soviet interests.
Stalin signed the pact in the hope that Germany, England and France would get into a long war that would exhaust their armies and economies, and then the Soviets would swoop in and gain all of Europe.
It actually was a blessing in disguise that France fell as quickly as it did, because had it not happened, the Soviets may very well had ended up with ALL of Europe.
Can you imagine Russia asking to be included in some American patriotic parade? Chalk up another nation to which Obama kowtows.
I'll tell you what ended up defeating Nazism, Mussolini. Hitler had to pull Il Duce's chestnuts out of the fire in the Balkans, and it delayed Operation Barbarossa by a few critical months. Had the Germans stuck with the original plan, they would have been in Moscow before the harsh winter of '41.
If the U.S. had not gotten involved in the war, and if Hitler had not repeated Napoleon’s folly in invading Russia without finishing off Britain, the Germans might well have won, and the USSR would have had to defeat a strong Germany backed by the resources and manpower of the rest of Europe
And frankly had Hitler treated the Russians in the same manner as the French, a lot of Russians would have welcomed the Nazis as liberators from Stalinist tyranny.
I understand, understood before you posted, and agree.
I have at least three advantages over today’s college students when it comes to understanding history (1) I studied it before it got so polluted with political correctness, (2) I still study it on my own, and (3) I have more years actually living thru it. Just finished “The World at War” series agian.
Who ever heard of foreign troops participating in something like this?
