Comedian Richard Dawkins and seasoned troublemaker Christopher Hitchens plan to put a headlock on Pope Benedict when he steps onto English soil. Stop! they plan to yell, We arrest thee as a criminal against humanity! It should be some good joke.
Most of us know Dawkinss stand-up routine. His selfish gene riff caused giggles in science clubs all over the Continent. But it was his award-winning memes gag that really sent them rolling in the aisles.
And now he plans to perp-walk the Holy Father down a Heathrow jet bridge. Such inspired hilarity can only come from an academic.
Dawkins has spent the last few decades whipping himself into a frenzy because a very small segment of the population isnt convinced that evolution is proved. Some form of Darwinian theory is surely right, but that a few souls dont believe it is not that interesting: a larger number of people cant work the Pythagorean theorem, let alone identify which side of a triangle is the hypotenuse.
Hitchens is also a serial hand-wringer. He, like Dawkins, is consumed with anxiety because some people still follow a traditional religion. These men are of course free to terrorize themselves, but they run a risk: intense fear can choke off the blood supply to higher brain functions.
My evidence for this is that the pair have sworn to arrest the Pope when he visits England in September.
Their case against the Pope is this: ...

I thought Richard Dawkins was the guy who used to host the Family Feud game show...
...and wasn’t he in Hogan’s Heroes before that?
Sounds like the beginning of a Monty Python sketch.
Richard Dawson is a comedian. Richard Dawkins is a smarmy apostle of atheism. His views, however, ARE comical.
That was Richard Dawson
Very good! Thanks for posting...
Who???
Someone may have already corrected this, but that was Richard Dawson.
Isn’t the ope a sitting head of state and therefore immune to such treatment?
I suggestd on another thread yesterday that somebody should arrest Dawkins, so I’m glad to see this story with this same idea. Dawkins is a walking crime against intelligence, indeed. He should also be arrested for a conspirarcy to deny people their freedom of worship and freedom of expression. This is an attempt to silence the Pope, so it is a crime against conscience and morality. Dawkins is a bully tyrant, so he should be arrested for a crime against liberty and democracy.
Thanks. I had to “youtube” him to recall his shtick. Smug and sanctimonious, he breathes life into the saying, “Misery loves company”...
I would highly encourage both of these asshats to try this, seeing as the Pope is an actual head of state, they could be held and tried as terrorists, which, in fact, they are.
The Swiss guards have a nice Jewish surprise under those silly costume
Mr. Dawkins & Mr. Hitchens meet Mr. Uzi.

Read the article, then ask your question again.
Before I thought yes. Now I see that they have an argument that Britain might just be stupid enough to go along with. I’m less certain then before.
