How do I feel? Click the Murtha tab to find out - but until then, our friend Phil can pass the good news.
The Navys 10th San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock will be named for Rep. John Murtha, the long-serving Pennsylvania Democrat who chaired the powerful House appropriations defense subcommittee before he died in February.I won't speak more of the dead - but I can't think of any OIF veteran who would like to sail her - and I think the CNO should read the newspaper more - maybe vets from OIF should mail him clippings of this.
According to a Navy memorandum obtained by Navy Times, Navy Secretary Ray Mabus notified Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Gary Roughead that he had selected John P. Murtha for the previously unnamed LPD 26. Its the latest example of the Navy breaking a convention for naming its warships; the previous ships in the San Antonio class have been named for American cities.

Hope the damn thing sinks.
A garbage scow is all that is fit to bear Jabba’s name.
What a disgrace. No one who falsely accused our troops of war crimes should have such an honor.
Sorry, I was seeing red when I typed that and sent it before proofing.
Makes me sick. I’ll stop there before I get the zot.
I think I’m gonna puke.
As a retired Navy Chief buddy has said, this is just another example of political correctness gone amok in today’s military.
Does it automatically eject Marines overboard?
I am sooooo GONNA HURL!!!!
the uss john murtha????
I’d rather sail aboard the “USS Benedict Arnold”
The only thing floating I’d give Murtha’s name would have to be flushed twice.
Named for a traitor who aided and abetted the enemy in a time of war slurring our military as a propagandist for terrorism.
Would be a good place to station many of the Queers..
Should have named at toilet after him. That’s about all he was worth.
I would desert before serving on that ship.
Just wait, they will name an aircraft carrier after Obambie.
That would be the final straw, if I were still in the US, but I have already left for good.
LOL. (sits on hand to keep from being zotted as well)
Please say it isn’t true!
Does it have a single blade prop? If so, it is a fitting tribute, to an all show - no go.
“What a disgrace. No one who falsely accused our troops of war crimes should have such an honor.”
If I was in the navy, just like the USS Jimmy Carter, this is another ship I would not want to serve on !
a slap in the face, Devil Dogs.
Sick to my stomach!
Better question is, “Does it automatically stab its MEU in the back when they board the ship, while sending the plans to the enemy.?”
We can but hope that word will get out among the swabs that it is a “Devil Jonah” Ship. A cursed ship that will damn its crew. They won’t even want to be in the same harbor with it.
How about the USS Barack Hussein Obama?
USS Nancy Pelosi, USS Hilary Clinton...
Sell it to Lithuania and rename it.
Ugh...my HEAD...make it STOP, make it STOP, PLEASE MAKE IT STOP!
>>> the USS Jimmy Carter, this is another ship I would not want to serve on !
In fairness the Navy made the best of a bad situation there. Having a full sized nuclear carrier named for a former president has become one of the retirement perks of the job. You can bet the next carrier after the Ford will be the Clinton.
The Navy pulled a slick end-run around this situation by using Carter’s submarine service as an excuse to avoid fifty years of the CVN Jimmy Carter. A submarine has half the lifespan, and by definition will spend most of it’s active service out of sight and unmentioned.
Oh, yikes! What about the current Oval Office Resident?
Lists hard to port. Rudder is stuck and it sails in meandering counter-clockwise circles. Ammo bunkers are filled with cotton candy and Skittles. All weapons systems rendered inoperable. All comm systems play unending monotonous 0bama speeches.
This article (http://www.defenseprocurementnews.com/2008/12/30/navys-orders-long-lead-items-for-next-lpd/) says the Navy has allocated $10 million for long lead time components. That’s not much on a ship costing over $1 billion. The actual production contract has not been let. LPDs 22 - 24 are currently building. Then probably 25 and 26 together. It will be sometime in the middle of the next decade before the ship is in the water. Maybe something will change by then.
This is bullshit. Murtha doesn’t even deserve an outhouse named after him.
Look at it as a positive tradeoff: The ship for the man.
You actually think there will be another aircraft carrier? Not in my lifetime, that’s for sure.
“You actually think there will be another aircraft carrier? Not in my lifetime, thats for sure.”
Well, I WAS being a bit facetious, but in the case of Obamie,
who knows? I mean he is now messiah of the world, Mr. Nobel loves him, and, who knows? He may be president for life.
Surely they could build him his own carrier, at least in the Ravell shipyard ;)
Just another poke in the eye from this administration who hates the military.
And hopefully as boats are mothballed, this is the first to spend her days in Bremerton rather than active or being re-commissioned for some new duty.
“How about the USS Barack Hussein Obama?”

LOL! Those are definitely rainbow-colored Skittles, too.
And no matter how many times they crew the ship it will later be found abandoned. The USS 0bama will be the first active duty ghost ship.
Not unless he can get a crew if Somali pirates.
