Today, I said “good-bye” to a very dear cat companion and friend, whom I was very much blessed with for nearly two years to have gotten to know. Her name was Negritia, which means “dark” or “black”. She had battled in the last couple of weeks from bone cancer on the left jaw. I met Negritia early May of 2008. She had a hard life, was a rescue with another cat, named Nala, having passed not long afterwards, (Nala), a beautiful gray and white long hair cat from FIP. She and I had it off right away in friendship.

I have adopted many cats into my family and heart over the years and know full-well how hard it is to lose one.

The life of a strictly outdoor cat is hard indeed. Average life of an outdoor cat is only 3-4 years.

Sorry about your loss. I lost my boy Simon to lymphoma a few years back. This cat was so tough that he would let me trim his tumor with a razor blade so he could eat. I put him through so much steroids and chemo that any other cat would have been dead in days. He lasted over a year.

I never would have put any cat through that, but he was the strongest cat I've ever seen. At his peek nearly 18 lbs. and not an ounce of fat on him. You have to know your pets and how to treat them once something goes wrong.

Here he is near the end. His sister was much different. I put her down much earlier (renal failure) than him. You know when you know. ">

My wife and I are real sorry for your loss. As avid pet lovers, we too have said goodbye to many of our “children” over the years. We’ll remember your family and Negritia in our prayers.
