The University of Wyoming has been ordered to invite domestic terrorist Bill Ayers to speak at their Laramie campus. Initially, Ayers had been invited to speak by the university Social Justice Research Center, but was later uninvited by UW President Tom Buchanan following protests by conservative student groups. Ayres filed a lawsuit and won a district court ruling, forcing UW to provide him with a lecture facility and adequate security for the event.
Personally, I'm a huge fan of the First Amendment, so I do not take issue with the ruling. No one should be silenced from expressing their political opinions, no matter how onerous they may be to others. However, this must apply to both ends of the spectrum.
Ayers, in my opinion, is one of the most evil men currently living. Mr. "Guilty as sin, free as a bird, it's a great country", actively plotted to overthrow the US government through the terrorist Weather Underground organization. Horrifically, he planned for the mass execution of millions of Americans who would resist his revolution after it was successful.
In spite of who he is, what he has done, and what he continues to do to undermine and destroy America's Constitutional foundation, he has the right to speak.
There's only one problem with this righteous defense of free speech. Although universities are profuse in their invitations to radical leftist speakers, they are notoriously discriminatory against voices on the right. Will this court ruling open the doors to force universities to invite conservative speakers?
I look forward to the potential lawsuits filed by Ann Coulter, Mark Levin, Sean Hannity, Michael Savage, Glenn Beck, Sarah Palin, and Rush Limbaugh, among many others.
Andrew Thomas
put his podium in a stall in the men’s room of some frat house.
You are absolutely correct. He has a right to speak.
Now, if attendance is mandatory, then there might be a different legal issue.
One thing for sure, the publicity will probably attract a bigger audience.
Right - and Sarah cannot?
SOCIAL JUSTICE = PURE BS!
HOW ABOUT EQUAL JUSTICE?
The president of the university should order his students to take a day off.
I’d fill the auditorium with sheep.
precedent has been set now.
Court orders University of California at Berzerkley to allow Obummer to use his teleprompter
What law allows the court to dictate who a University invites or uninvites to speak?
In the 70’s Bill Ayres blew up courts and threatened judges.
In the 10’s Bill Ayres looks to the courts to back him up.
How times have changed.
Personally I think that if Ayres believes an unjust government should be taken out then we should start with him.
(I do not condone violence.)
...and the next time an Army, Navy, Air Force, or Marine recruiter wants access to a College campus??? Will these same people be promoting tolerance to views contrary to their own??? I doubt it, I seriously doubt it. Almost every single liberal I know is outrageously hypocritical when it comes to their politics. Then again, they basically have to be. If they followed logic, they soon would find themselves adopting ideas and ideals that weren’t “liberal.”
After all arent Ayers and McVie one in the same ? just that one was better at the terror game and the other got off on a legal technicality ?
This Andrew Thomas doesn’t seem to grasp what the First Amendment is all about.
The GOVERNMENT is FORCING a university to host a terrorist—and this clown thinks that’s a victory for “free speech”?
***** “precedent has been set now” *******
New precedents are being set daily... I will die with the memories of what was ... it will be a long time ... if ever freedom ever graces the US again.
TT
He doesn’t have a “right” to a taxpayer-subsidized forum.
Hell yeah!!
PLEASE use sarc /sarc tags on something like this.
Be careful on what you say and how you say it.
