Shakira, Who Is Not a US Citizen, Is Fighting the Arizona Immigration Law

Shut up. These are the two words that come to mind I when read things about celebrities and their political views. Normally we hear about saving the whales, or the environment, saving anything really. But today I stumbled across this:

Shakira and Arizona – Immigration Law Fight from Pop Star

Pop star Shakira says she will continue to fight against a controversial Arizona immigration law. The law signed in the state last week by Gov. Jan Brewer makes it a state crime to be in the US illegally. Shakira, who was born in Colombia, told radio host Ryan Seacrest how she would not sit by and accept the law.

“As a Latina I am very concerned about how this law will impact working Hispanic families,” she said. “Being detained in the street just because of the color of your skin is just wrong. It is a violation of your human and civil rights.”

Shakira told Seacrest how she was traveling to Arizona to meet the Mayor of Phoenix and city police chiefs. “I am going to meet the chief of police to see how they are planning on implementing a law like this, despite it being a violation to civil rights.”

Oh that’s right- all of Colombia’s problems are solved! Colombia is a shining beacon of democracy and freedom with a high life expectancy and no major terror groups. Why don’t you worry about getting Colombia up to 1st world standards then you can start to complain about the U.S.

Thanks for posting this, else I would have gone on thinking that "Shakira" was an African kingdom, or a Hindu deity, or a new, high-energy drink!

Regards,

Let’s send one of our celebrities to Columbia to tell them how to enforce their drug laws. Or to Iran to tell them not to arrest women for having suntans. Or to North Korea to lecture them on human rights. Any suggestions?

Well, thank God Shakira has broken her 9-day silence. At last I know how to view this Arizona law. Thank you, Shakira.

Well, she met with Phil Gordon, mayor of Phoenix, who is not much of a mayor OR much of an Arizonan. The guy makes a doofus look good. He threatened a lawsuit against S1070 before checking with the city council would back him. They wouldn’t. The guy makes a doofus look good.

I wonder if these idiots ever come to realize how incredibly stupid they sound? I agree, Shakira needs to go back and take care of her OWN country’s problems, before she overreaches here.

Since Arabs are considered "white" by the US census bureau, Shakira can't even rely on her Arab side to be considered "nonwhite."

The "Latino"/Hispanic category is absolutely ridiculous. Most people who we think of when we use the term could be classified racially as "mestizos."

“Well, thank God Shakira has broken her 9-day silence. At last I know how to view this Arizona law. Thank you, Shakira.”

It took her handlers that long to tell her what her opinion on the subject was, then teach her how to say it.

She says she is concermed for Latino working families.

As always they jump to an extreme possibility. ...IE being detained on the streets.

When in fact all of us possibly can be detained on the streets, if we are speeding, run a stop sign, have a broken tail light, etc.. Then we are asked for our drivers license and our insurance coverage, and possibly proof of ownership of the vehicle.

No difference except of course if one ca... As OBAMA said regarding the investment regulations ... ‘if you are honest you will not mind, if you intend to be a crook you do not want.’ (rough paraphrase).

Once again they are exaggerating the point with hyperbole,

Good grief. Do not be a dolt about all this hype!

The more we buy into it the more they win. God help us in our day, in Jesus name, amen.
