Well, well, well. Remember when Barack Obama said that under ObamaCare, people would keep their existing health plans and doctors? Remember when any suggestion that companies would find it a lot less expensive to dump employer-based health care and pay the penalties instead were cast as myths and scare tactics, even though the math was extremely easy to see? Welcome to Hope and Change:

Bump
Just another confirmation of how disastrous Obamacare is. The entire concept is a disaster upon America, its companies and its citizens.
The entire concept of socialized medicine is a disaster, period. Not just for America, but for Britain, France, and anyone else who operates such a system.
But its passage is more tragic in the US, where people oughta know better.
And this is why that horrid bill was passed.
Because they were going to get what they REALLY want as a CONSEQUENCE of passing this bill.
America, RIP Nov 4, 2008
I wonder if the debt commission will suggest that the feds drop the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program. Even with the subsidies to workers, I imagine that would still shift more cost to the employees.
That damned Law of Unintended Consequences, ain’t it a bitch.
But its passage is more tragic in the US, where people oughta know better.
:::::::::
The people did not vote this in. The socialists in Washington did. In general the people REJECTED this sham of a power-grab and still do in increasing numbers. The radicals in DC do not care what the people want or think.
“And this is why that horrid bill was passed.”
It was very clear while reading the bill that this would be the consequence of healthcare reform. You are so correct this is exactly what the Regime wanted - this is the path to single payer.
are you sure the consequences were unintended?
This retreat by employers of provinding health insurance enefits is needed to drive more people into a govt or single player system
Now, will govt employers follow the same path as private employers? Will state employees, police, etc and public school teachers get dumped into the market for govt healthcare? That would save local taxpayers a pantload of money and deliver mediocre healthcare to all those partisan shills.
“unexpected”....
NOT!!
There is no “may” about it. I have heard from business owners who intend to do this.
It will save them a ton of money. And the employees get screwed, because their plans are downgraded.
BTW, this was the Govts plan all along. Now they will be able to say, “see, we need the public option”.
A disaster, yes — but let no one imagine these are so-called “unintended consequences” — the Obamanation NEEDS this process (companies dumping off their health care plans) to occur.
(1) increases various pressures and sense of crisis throughout the economy and health care businesses
(2) increases constituency for single-payer
(3) enables Obamanation to demonize the very corporations (eviiill) which act according to the new incentives he has enacted
(4) as the Obamanators savage the current health care picture the Demagogues will pretend to have the “solution” to the “crisis” which is unfolding
The “shocker” in the headline must be sarcasm
Nobody could have predicted that!!
oh wait, we all did
The people voted in those who said they would do this.
The people should not be surprised when a job gets done that they hired someone to do.
“Shocker: Major corporations may dump health insurance, pay penalties instead”
I am both shocked and stunned. If only someone had seen that coming.

Here's my "Shocked Face"
This is the reason lots of major corportation money went to Obama.
If they can cut their health care costs, then they have made their situation similar to much of their overseas competitors. One would expect them to drive hard in the future for TOTAL government health care, so they can be rid of any such costs. Any taxes, will, of course, go directly onto the price tag of their vehicles and be mitigated by deductions.
What’s lost is the freedom of individuals.
We never should have connected employers and health care. There’s no logical reason for it.
