review of The World Turned Upside Down, by Melanie Phillips
Melanie Phillips, the columnist for the British newspaper the Spectator, has written a fine new book: The World Turned Upside Down: The Global Battle Over God, Truth and Power. Ms. Phillips lives up to her reputation for tackling political and social issues in this attempt to create an overarching thesis for why we have seen such absurdities as climate change fraud, political correctness run amok, unbalanced portrayals bordering on propaganda regarding Islam and Israel, and the war in Iraq. This is a challenge that Phillips meets head on and masters.
Climate change is the hot topic of the day and Phillips methodically charts the rise of the "movement." A core problem is that science has given way to ideology. The scientific method has been dispensed with -- or abused -- to serve the myth of anthropengic (man-made) warming (AGW). There is more than a taint of ideology involved: many of the advocates of AGW view the Western world and its way of living as the culprits. Computer models are built in an almost backwards fashion: the goal is to show evidence of AGW and the "scientists" go to work to produce such a result.

It’s a start, and a damn good one.
I belong to a Skeptic group (THE Skeptic group) and if you even utter a hint of doubt about AGW, you are marked as an idiot who doesn’t even deserve the courtesy of being heard even in discussions that have nothing to do with climate change. And I offer that this is a new religion and is the exact opposite of science (because science is never settled, EVER. We are discovering new things and replacing old theories every day). But it’s like becoming branded as a “Flat earth denier” and you are ostracized from the group. It’s really quite ridiculous and funny, if it weren’t so unfunny.
The problem here is that you are dealing with man and his ego.

I am also a “skeptic”.
The AGW Marxist paint in only two colors.
You are either a devout believer or you are a “DENIER”.
No one can be a denier in something that is not known as fact.
For example, I can deny that I am wearing a shirt, as I am not, and I know that as fact.
The AGW crowd does not recognize “skeptics”.
You must be a true and devout believer, otherwise you are scum in their book.
No one on Earth has any idea what the climate or weather will do from one year to the next.
They are lucky to guess tomorrows weather.
Thank God I am over 65 and do not have to grow up in a world of neo-Marxist Obot idiots.
I am also thankful that I escaped from the USSA before Obambie was elected.

Global Warming Fraud and the Future of Science - J. R. Dunn
The "scientists" who perpetrated the global warming fraud approached their science in exactly the opposite manner as the approach described above. They formulated a theory based on political ideology (as well as the path of least resistance to "grant" money) and then did whatever they had to do with their data to "prove" it.
What the world has now seen with the expose of the "global warming" scam puts a new spin on the old saying: "Figures can lie and liars can figure." The discipline of science has taken a massive hit over the past few months and it could take years for science - - and scientists - - to regain credibility with the public. A lot of that burden must fall on honest scientists, and the first and most important thing they must do is scream for the heads of Michael Mann, Phil Jones, and the rest of the fraudsters. I guess we'll see if they have the integrity to do it....
