Nixon resigned because the Senate as per the Constitution was about to convict and remove him. He would have constitutionally told “the people” to go $@#@@ themselves otherwise.
Public pressure to resign is NOT one of the ways that we have a peaceful transfer of power, neither was it public pressure that made Nixon resign; it was the very real and looming threat of impeachment.
Truth is, they should all be tried for treason, placed in stocks in a busy public square to be mocked and insulted for a couple of days, then hung by the neck until dead from an old fashioned public gallows.
And I do not consider this foolish hyperbole.

With the current state of affairs in the country, we would be ignored. Politicians at all levels have almost elevated themselves to an "untouchable" level. Their arrogance is astounding.
