Here is a secret:if you live in America: your child has a better chance to be rich and have a yacht than to become a President of the USA when he/she grows up. At least 5% of the Americans are very, very rich and only five of them worked as POTUS.
The American dream is to work hard and collect the fruits of your labor (for many that means to become famous and rich, but it is not necessary).
The pinhead CEO of BP Tony Hayward should be prosecuted like everybody else if he committed any crimes including criminal negligence.
However bashing him for possessing a yacht, an expensive yacht makes no sense. Not in America!
It is true Hayward should have listened to Jeeves and stayed home this weekend. However BPs CEO is still a free person and he can spend his money as a free person.
Since the Gulf disaster started President Obama played golf, partied at a state diner, sang-along with Paul McCartney. VP Joe Biden went all the way to South Africa to watch soccer to relax after the wild games of soaker on the White House lawn. And all this fun on tax-payers dime!!!
So forgive me if I dont scream that Hayward is hiding in disguise so nobody could recognize him on a yacht with his son for a day. At least he is spending his own money.
We can fake outrage all day long about yachting being a sport for the spoiled rich. However even the uber left always gave a pass to the Kennedys for their love for yachts. Plus if you ask Hugo Chavez you will find out that golf is the true bourgeois sport....

Only if everyone else is giving a yacht.
I wish he was in it
The yacht is representing America and he is the captain, figuratively of course.
Only if everyone else is giving a yacht?
this sounds like social justice :)
This is the most I can aspire to under Dear Leader's economy...
But I'd much rather have one of these...
From what I remember the story was that this yacht was just sold in Dubai or somewhere thereabouts, it was a total loss, caved in the bow, stripped the shafts out and of course there was all the saltwater damage, it was slung improperly and the slings slipped, there was actually two people on board when it happened.
In as such as owning a large boat right now I would very much like to buy one as its a buyers market, especially the older wood hulled vessels like the Chris Crafts. My choice is a 40 to 58’ Hatteras. Solid name with a thick fiberglass hull, most have the trusty but oily Detroit Diesels which I hold licenses to work on.
For buying a large liveaboard type of boat Florida actually has deals that are unreal, like situations where someone finally realizes how big a hole in the water rebuilding an older boat is, they just get too far beyond their means.
There are deals that go so far as giveaways, really, I have seen Craigslist postings for smaller sailboats, just show up and haul it off. Many abandoned boats the last couple of years.
I am in Alaska, absolutely no cheap boats up here unless they are underwater, I’m not quite ready to snowbird through the winter yet but when I do I will find me something that may never move around on its own power but can give me some independence. Thats why I look for the older Hatteras.
But since Obama took control of the country and is mis-using his Executive Privileges on a daily basis I am staying in Alaska. I don’t want to be separated from my home if and when the SHTF, and I do think something will, Obama will not step down.
Looks like a happy ride!
Now that is AWESOME!
