When Massachusetts High School students, faculty members, and parents gathered to celebrate and honor the students among them who decided to serve in our armed forces, there wasnt a thought that anybody would use the moment for a political protests. It was a moment, where many students were getting achievements for a year well-done and with a special honorary moment and plaque going to the group of students who had chosen the most honorable career in our country, the United States Military.
What should have been an inspiring and special moment for those students and their families was ruined by a disgusting and narcissistic protest on behalf of two teachers in the audience. The History teacher, Marybeth Verani, and the English teacher, Adeline Koscher, decided that they would assert their political opinions by standing and holding protest signs and then sitting when the rest of the group stood and applauded the young people.
Making the matters worse, there were several families in the crowd who had recently lost their sons in the war and had to suffer through the indignity of the teachers classless and thoughtless actions. The Cape Cod Times reported:
Heightening the reaction was the attendance of Yarmouth police Lt. Steven Xiarhos, who lost his son, U.S. Marine Cpl. Nicholas Xiarhos, to a roadside bombing in Afghanistan in July 2009.
Nicholas Xiarhos, a 2006 D-Y grad, was among the first group of students to receive a plaque recognizing their military service.
They go on to report more from one of these classless and unpatriotic teachers, Marybeth Verani:
This was a captive audience, she said, adding that the plaques should have been given out at an after-school awards ceremony that was not compulsory attendance for all students.
Standing and applauding is a sign of support for the decision these people have made, Verani said. I want them to be home and alive and well and going to college and dating and having kids and coaching Little League.
Does anyone really care what Verani wants? The last I checked, this wasnt the Soviet Union, and individuals can choose what THEY want for THEIR future. Furthermore, its because of these young people, who put their lives on the lines every day for the rest of us who sit at home and take for granted our daily freedoms, that allows for these repulsive people to exist and display their childish behavior.
My brother is currently one of the many young people in our military, currently serving among the 82nd Airborne Division and the thought of what these teachers did to the six students involved is absolutely revolting to me. I can tell you from experience that the time between the moment of decision, when a young person decides to join the military, and the time that they leave for boot camp, or their respective excercise, is a sensitive, extremely emotional, yet incredibly proud moment for the families. They are so proud of their child, yet they cant help but be mindful of the sacrifice and possible loss. Each day is precious, little things take on new meaning and you just hope that others appreciate the patriotic offering that your loved one is giving to their country.
I was further outraged when I learned that despite this outrageous display of disrespect for the students and their families, and despite the fact that the school had received about 40 emails from concerned citizens and parents, these teachers had not been fired; simply put on paid leave for a couple of days.
These teachers have engaged in unacceptable and shameful behavior, using their positions as teachers and as so-called role models to make political statements and attempt to indoctrinate students with their idiotic political notions. They keep touting the fact that they are showing their students how to properly dissent, so as such, I would like to take the opportunity and urge each one of you to contact not only the schools but also the teachers. Lets show them that we already know how to dissent and we know how to do it well.
If you would like to voice your personal dissent and express your opinion that these teachers be fired, you can contact these people through email:

One wonders if the teacher has the same problem with students being a captive audience while the homosexual agenda is shoved down their throats in that states’ school system.

Geez, sometimes Verani, its not all about you. I know this is hard to hear being an high school teacher and all, but you aren’t really that big a deal in the cosmos. If you were a lawyer or actor things would be different.

Mitt Romney supporters?
Sounds like they should be fired for hate crimes? Imagine this being done to a PC group?
Pray for Our Troops
I’m not surprised by this; after all, narcissism is in style right now...
I bet I know who these two “teachers” voted for-their “style icon” is in the white House!
I know if it were MY HS those teachers would have been calling AAA to come fix the 4 flat tires on their cars....
“dating and having kids.” What’s missing?
quote-dating and having kids. Whats missing?”
Perfect!!!!!!!!!
In Westborough, MA, the high school banned military sponsors from standing for recognition during the graduation ceremony. The sponsors were former military who had recruited graduates for the military academies or for enlistment.
That is almost verbatim what I intended to post.
great minds
