Rove Previews Obama Immigration Speech; Believes Obama Engaging in “Cynical Ploy” – Video

Here is video of Karl Rove previewing the speech President Obama will give today on Illegal Immigration. Rove believes Obama is not serious about passing Comprehensive Immigration Reform this year, but is making this push just to “jazz up” the Latino vote:

“I don’t think there is any immediate appetite to take up the issue this year. I’ve got to tell you: This is cynical, and it is hypocritical, and it’s political with an issue that ought to be treated sincerely, honestly, and outside of politics as much as possible. I don’t think the President is really interested in passing CIR this year. He just wants a political issue to jazz up Latinos and to get them to vote – maybe not for Democrats this Fall – but for him in 2012.”

I think Rove has hit the nail on the head here. Obama knows he does not have the votes to do this. It’s a political ploy to galvanize Latino votes for Democrats and for himself.

On the Arizona Law, Rove said that current Federal Immigration Laws actually give a looser standard of what is necessary to ask someone about their immigration status. He said the Arizona Law is actually a very tightly written law.

The old...."I love you all and you should have the same rights as any peoples of the world to a good life....even though you're screwing your own who came here legally and the rest of American LEGAL residents."

Now, lets talk about mules...

I wouldn't underestimate Obama's willingness and desire to get this passed this year. It is a win-win for him. He energizes the Hispanic vote before the mid-terms--something Harry Reid needs--and if he loses, he can blame the Reps as being the obstructionists.

Moreover, immigration becomes a distraction for the oil spill, unemployment, the growing deficit, and the deteriorating situation in the Middle East and a nuclear Iran. This becomes another crisis that will monopolize the news. In the meantime, the huge financial reform bill moves on along with cap and trade. Obama is lighting multiple fires and his opponents are rushing around trying to address them. It splinters the opposition and forces them to choose between the many "crises."

I find this statement by Rove to be amusing. He is the one who pushed for amnesty under Bush and called the opponents, i.e., conservative Reps, bigots and nativists.

Of course, the Reps won’t call his bluff and have him present
his bill which many Dems in the House don’t want in an election year!

Many Dems did not want cap and trade and Obamacare in an election year. Obama, Reid, and Pelosi will decide regardless. This is high stakes politics. Obama promised that he would address comprehensive immigration reform in his first year. Before the mid-terms he wants to make this a high profile issue, albeit a little late.

Fiorina has already chimed in saying she wants a guest worker program included. The GOP establishment has been bought and paid for by the US Chamber of Commerce. The Reps are deeply divided on immigration. The Dems can exploit it. And they really have little to lose, especially those who have already voted for cap and trade and Obamacare, which is now becoming more popular if you believe the polls.

This is cynical, and it is hypocritical, and it’s political with an issue that ought to be treated sincerely, honestly, and outside of politics as much as possible.

As if Rove has any credibility on immigration.

The Stupid Party had eight years to enforce the law and secure the border.

But no, they stood about with pants down around their ankles and engaged in the same identity politics as the Kenyan - but also adding the preposterous spin of "family values" along with "jobs Americans won't do".

Put a sock in it Karl.
