Progressive History Restored
Cliff Kincaid, July 7, 2010
As a student, Obama Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan was so interested in the socialist movement that she wrote a thesis about its history in New York City from 1900-1933. But the history of the Progressive Party, which ran FDRs former vice president Henry Wallace as its presidential candidate in 1948, helps bring the subject up to date and explains the current direction of the Democratic Party.
The Progressive Party was controlled by the Communist Party but efforts to work through the democratic process did not die out with its election defeat in 1948. Communists and progressives then targeted the Democratic Party for a takeover from within.
A semi-official history, in the form of the book, Gideons Army, was written by Curtis MacDougall, a professor of journalism at Northwestern University who also wrote Interpretative Reporting, a standard text in journalism schools for more than 50 years. MacDougall, who wrote critically (even in his journalism textbook) about efforts to expose communist influence in the U.S. Government, was himself a Progressive Party activist and candidate.
Not surprisingly, MacDougalls influence was felt not only on generations of journalists, but on his own son, A. Kent McDougall, who was acknowledged in the 1972 edition of Interpretative Reporting as then being with the New York office of the Wall Street Journal and lending valuable assistance in its preparation. Kent came out openly as a Marxist after working at the Journal, where he said he inserted positive stories about Marxist economists and the left-wing journalist I.F. Stone. Stone, it turned out, was a Soviet agent of influence....

“I used to be an anti-Communist liberal Democrat until I realized all was lost and the Commie/Progressives had transmuted and taken over.”
So does that make you a “pro-communist liberal Democrat”?
just askin’
The description anti-Communist liberal Democrat was from the article itself where they noted the difference between the "traditional" kind of the liberal Democrat which I believed in before George Bush and the progressives of today which can be thoroughly described as PRO-commie/Marxist liberal Democrats.
So no to your question. I am certainly NOT and NEVER was a Marxist liberal Democrat and even more certainly today I am a through and through committed Conservative through personal awakening.
“anti-communist liberal” is an oxymoron.
As for modern 20th and 21st century liberalism:
Scratch a liberal and under his thin skin is a socialist. Dig a little deeper and you will soon find the Marxist nuclear fuel rod that drives everything he says and does.
Corollary: All Marxists lie. (For a modern liberal, there is never enough socialism. Although they lie about it, they will never be satisfied until communism is fully implemented.)
She is Jewish, socialism has always done well with that voting block.
In 1948 the Progressive candidate received 15% of the Jewish vote, with another 75% going to the Democrat.
In 1924 (the period Kagan wrote about), it was 22% Progressive and 51% Democrat, the election before that (1920), the Socialist party candidate got 38% of the Jewish vote.
Obama got 78% of the Jewish vote, Bill Clinton got 80%, it can't be totally shocking that Kagan has socialist leanings.
“today I am a through and through committed Conservative through personal awakening. “
Yes, it was in jest to find out exactly where you are coming from. A lot of us have had “personal awakenings”.
Looks like this article has some good info. I’ve been arguing with someone who asserts that “just because I’m far left doesn’t make me a Marxist”.
Ok, maybe she’s just too crazy...
WE all -- may of us, most of us! -- went to these laundromat ivory tower liberal colleges and didn't learn what we are talking about.
