The primaries to determine the candidates who will battle for the seat vacated by the late Senator Robert Byrd (D-West Virginia) are little more than a month away. But most who are watching the race believe it will be a contest between Governor Joe Manchin (D) and Republican industrialist John Raese. The latest poll shows the Governor with a significant 16 point lead (51% - 35%) so should we put this one in the Democratic win column? Not yet.

Thanks for that explanation. It’s a shame that WV is that way, sending Democrts to Congress, oblivious to what they do to the rest of the country. Obviously, they are not informed enough to understand the damage that they do.
They are no more or less informed than the people in SC who send us DeMint and Graham. Or those in Iowa who give us Grasley And Harkin. Politicians lie and many people are deceived. Nothing much more than that.
Granted, it’s a problem in other states. But it seems to me that WV, with its collection of pretty ignorant folks, is pretty consistent in sending Democrat senators to Washington.
At least Graham is on the rolls as a Republican and counts for majority purposes.
But I have especial reference to Alabama, also a state with people of limited education, which nevertheless has the good sense to send two conservative and effective Republican senators and a large collection of conservative Republican congressmen. Even the few Democrats they send appear to be conservative.
That’s what I am saying. It’s not that the people in WV are somehow dumber than average. They are JUST as average, it is that the POLITICIANS in WV are damn good liars.
Do you remember the famous Shotgun photo in 2004 with John Kerry in WV? He went to a rally and held up a shotgun. John KERRY. Claiming he was PRO GUN and guess what ELSE... anti-gay and pro traditional marriage. I am NOT Kidding. He claimed on tape, that it was Bush Appointed Judges who invented gay laws and he would appoint honorable judges.
I was there as a volunteer for Victory2004 that summer. Working in DC and we all went to WV following Kerry for 3 days. At the rally, many out of state Kerry staff were there too. And so we both (sided) talked while handing out our opposing lit. We each snuck copies from our supporters of the other sides lit too.
And Kerry was passing out a PRO FAMILY PRO GUN ANTI GAY ANT CHOICE lit piece.
There was a VERY BUTCH, obviously totally lez young girl working for Kerry and we struck up a conversation during a half an hour of work... and I asked her...
Pardon me, but you strike me as a very pro choice, pro gay rights liberal feminist, yes?
She readily admitted it. YES, VERY MUCH SO.
So, I pulled out my copy of her lit and said. HOW CAN YOU PASS THIS OUT ??
She smiled and said, the Dems here are stuck in the 1950s so we HAVE TO LIE TO WIN.
Proud of it.
I was shocked and she just laughed at me and smiled like she was sooooo smarter than us.
So what happened?
The Dems in WV knew Kerry was a Liar and Bush won by 20+ points.
But, they also know their local county Dem IS PRO LIFE and PRO GUN and the GOP Candidate is a RINO Squish.
That is the fault of the State GOP and their Pro Choice Abortion Doctor Chairman.
I wouldn’t vote for him or his candidates either if I lived there and I am as well informed as they get.
Until the GOP actually changes and runs REAL Conservatives and until the Dems are actually MORE LIBERAL than the GOP... expect the Dems to win 2 to 1 in WV. And expect a few liberal dems to LIE.
But the people aren’t hicks or stupid. Any more or less than people anywhere else.
