Wildlife officials have killed a grizzly bear in Wyoming and a grizzly bear in Montana to head-off potential lawsuits.
The Montana grizzly killed and partially consumed Kevin Kammer at a Gallatin National Forest campground near Cooke City, Mont. on July 29. The Wyoming grizzly killed 70 year-old botanist Erwin Evert on June 17 on the Shoshone National Forest near the East Entrance of Yellowstone National Park.
The circumstances were quite different, but the decision to kill the bears was undoubtedly influenced by a 1996 court case over the terrible bear mauling of 16 year-old Anna Knochel at a U.S. Forest Service campground near Tucson, AZ. She was mauled by a bear that had recently inflicted minor injuries on another girl. Knochel and her family filed a $15 million lawsuit against the State of Arizona (Arizona Game & Fish Department) and the Forest Service.

Seriously? lawsuits gone crazy. Does the public really expect the rangers to protect them from the wild animals. You enter a wildlife area at your own risk.

The ESA protections on grizzly bears as “ endangered “ should be removed.

Ya, the libs can go up to them and give them a big hug. How warm and fuzzy.
Being mauled by a bear would be one of the worst things I can think of. The wounds would get horribly infected no matter how they cleaned them. The recovery would take a long time.
They bait areas to get these samples.
Lo and behold...this endangered species isn't so endangered after all.

Rather than wipe out the species just make sure they are confined to a viable wildlife area;but stop pretending wild predators and humans can co-exist peacefully.(This also applies to two-legged predators).
I don't think rehab is out of the question when done by qualified government certified wildlife management mental health professionals.

Well a national park is certainly a viable wildlife area.
So if you're fishing in the Park, burn your clothes and douse yourself with clorox.
I'd be curious to find out if those last victims had been fishing. That smell doesn't go away.
If those same officials make it impossible for the individual to protect themselves from bears then, yes, they should get sued if they fail to protect the public. Either authorize the carrying of large bore handguns and rifles or shoot every Grizzly in the parks, or just shut the parks down altogether. People expect to be safe in the parks, unreasonable as that sounds, because they have been led to believe they will be safe.
There is no waiver that a person signs when they go into Yellowstone that absolves the Park Service if the tourist happens to get killed by a Grizzly or other animal. At the very least the dangers of being in the park or, as in the most recent case, near the park should be made very clear to the public.
We expect government to NOT reintroduce or increase populations of dangerous animals that were either previously hunted out for good reason, or were never present in the lower 48.
These grizzly and wolf "reintroductions" are deliberate attempts to wipe out humans and/or keep us out of rural areas. It's a communist thing.
