Congress has duty to declare war on Mexico

rticle 1, Section 8 of the US Constitution gives Congress the authority to declare war. This is certainly in keeping with the preamble, which declares that government was established to provide for the common defense of the United States. This is important to note because Fox News in Phoenix is reporting that Mexico’s ruling authority (a drug cartel) has called for the assassination of one of our elected political leaders, and has gone so far as to offer a reward for this killing.

I would love to see this happen but as far as I can tell, our Gov’t is more apt to bend over and take it where the sun don’t shine regarding latin/mexican drug cartels.

The democrats would win every single election if that were the case.

Article 1, section 10:

'engage in war, unless actually invaded, or in such imminent danger as will not admit of delay.'

States have the right, to engage in war, on their own; without the consent of Congress.

I think we should annex the entire country.

Not under this "President". Otherwise, yes, that's an excellent idea. However, a very significant pacification campaign would need to be undertaken first.

Millions of stupid, aggressive, drug-addled, dead Mexicans later, annexation would be a good idea.

The most likely outcome is a near-extermination event caused by virus, collapse of the food chain/logistics, or other natural disaster. After that, buenos dias.

Huh' the drug cartels are not the ruling authority, though they do control though fear and intimation the people of certain regions, they are not a legitimate government.

So they propose for Congress to declare war on a sovereign country based on the inability of the legitimate Mexican government to rein in it's drug lords???

I think their are probably a few interment steps we can take to stop this crap instead of having a three front war.

The only war this Congress would declare is on the American people and their wallets. Mexico is basically a second tier country with a very small middle class so Congress would probably pass anyway. Nothing in it for them

I agree. However, it will never happen. Too much drug money and too many votes are involved.

?? why would we declare war on mexico just because a drug cartel may or may not have issued a reward to kill a sheriff?

Believe me I am all for sealing the border and getting rid of every illegal here as well as their anchor babies

but to suggest war with a government because drug thugs threaten a sheriff is crazy

Democrats in Congress react to threat as Mexico threatens the sheriff of Maricopa County..

(Disclaimer: The sarcastic comment above is from me.
The image is from President Calderon's speech to Congress a few months ago and he made no threat against the sheriff of Maricopa County. The image is from Fox news.)

Won’t happen on Obambi’s watch. But if we put pressure on him to do so, it could at least become entertaining. Maybe he’ll actually start to enforce the border if he sees that his dereliction has resulted in demands to invade.
