Iran's vile fascist runt of a president survived an assasination attempt in Tehran earlier today- the pugnacious Iranian leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad survived an assassination attempt today when a homemade grenade exploded near his convoy, it was reported.

The Iranian website, khabaronline.ir, said the incident happened in Hamedan in western Iran as Ahmadinejad was on his way to address a crowd. It said he was unhurt and went on to give his speech as planned, which was broadcast live on state television.

The report said the president's car was about 100 metres away from the site of the blast. The website said one person has been arrested but there was no news on whether anyone was injured.

There were mixed messages coming out of the president's office about whether an attack had taken place.

One source in the office of Ahmadinejad confirmed to Reuters that the Iranian president's motorcade had come under an attack...

...the president's car was about 100 metres away from the site of the blast.

We should begin training bombers to work in countries like Iran. Ahmadinejad should never be allowed to forget that he is supporting terrorism therefore he could be a target.

There’s a lot of unhappiness over there... they’ve lost the young people, and there are more of them than anybody

That’s still another reason to race for the bomb... same reason as Kim Jong Il

That’s still another reason to race for the bomb... same reason as Kim Jong Il, to cling to power mostly

This will probably shake up some “other” world leaders.

Right... and who says there have not been others up to now. I will bet there is a positively Byzantine network of Anti ‘I'm A Nutjob’ types populating that place...all busy like bees and hounding him continually.

By releasing the news, they will have dozens of copycats. The bomber’s intent will inspire people against the monster.

They haven't really lost the young people yet. The young people may be fed up with the ruling mullahs, but they are not yet fed up with Islam itself. Many of them think they can "reform" the system, that they can "moderate" Islam.

When the people start a campaign of killing Islamic clerics, then you know it's begun.

Yeah, I should have been clearer

I mean this regime... with a little nudge they might have fallen last year

I don’t think the society is walking away from Islam at all... but this president is only popular with the poorest and most militant supporters of the Theocracy

jmho

Or... it could have been deliberately placed out of range by Imanutjob’s own forces, to justify “rounding up the usual suspects”.

I don’t think the society is walking away from Islam at all... but this president is only popular with the poorest and most militant supporters of the Theocracy.

The underclass will always support Islam, because Islam is, at its heart, a welfare state.

Islam mandates collection of a wealth tax (zakat) on assets, investments, and cash on hand. This tax is distributed among the poor, those "striving in the path of Allah"(jihadis), the clerics, and the zakat-collectors.

If you are poor, Islam provides you with an income. Naturally, the underclass will fight hard to preserve the system. OTOH, if you have ambitions to become comfortably middle-class, zakat can be a heavy tax on your assets unless you work to shield your assets from being subject to zakat, so the educated Iranians are going to be less than enchanted with the practice.
