His subsequent clarifications and corrections are mechanical.
Which always means that there will be a week of back-tracking clarifications.

Rush had great suggestion for Texas, Arizona etc. Just start building a border fence and declare it a Mosque. Maybe Obama will come down and help with its construction.
He is, so obviously, trying to create civil unrest before November. There is no other plausible explanation for him to publicly take this stance at this time. At least I can’t think of one.
Considering that everybody else has already conceded their right to build a mosque but has been questioning the wisdom of this location (particularly after an offer from Gov. Patterson to relocate was decline), what the hell else could 0 have meant other than an endorsement because he certainly wasn’t saying anything else that anybody didn’t already know!

Exactly right! Obama’s comments were idiotic as he said how Muslims have the right to practice their religion, etc. This issue is not about freedom of religion or the right of people to practice their faith. The issue is precisely about why Muslims want to build a mosque at Ground Zero, not whether they have freedom of religion in America.
And there are about 100 mosques in New York City. There is no shortage of places of worship, and no persecution of anyone worshipping at those mosques. Obama set up a straw man about freedom of religion and knocked it down. Why? To make liberals happy? To make Bin Laden and his boys happy?
Why in the heck did Obama bring up the subject of the mosque, if not as an endorsement of the plan? Today he’s backtracking and saying that he wasn’t commenting on the wisdom of putting a mosque there. I think that Axelrod, Rahm Emmanuel, etc. and him had a meeting to go over the overnight polling on the issue and realized this is very bad news for him.

He always tries to walk back what he means but he said what he meant to the muslims at dinner. He got his point across to them, we don’t matter.
He knows what he said. This retreat is just a signal for the media to give him a break.
Right! As soon as he heard that the rest of American’s just nailed him ... this is the first time a president has been divorced from the rest of the county ... ok, well there are those liberals ....
He’s a dangerous, bumbling, incompetent President. But, believe it or not, he’s an even worse politician.
I believe that deserves it’s own thread.
Also consider where he said it and the occasion: a feast for breaking Ramadan.

He is not only the worst president in history, he’s the worst politician in history. However, that still does not adequately explain this inexplicable statement.
Man, he must have really been feeling the luv in the room of Muslims celebrating Ramadan. He sure hasn’t felt any luv from the American people in about 18 months, so maybe he couldn’t help himself. A sick, Satanic but essentially twisted Sally Field moment — they like me, they really like me, at last I am in the presence of SOMEONE who likes me.
But, again, that’s nowhere near an explanation.
