New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg gave remarks last night at an Iftar dinner he hosted at Gracie Mansion, with Daisy Khan, wife of Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, and Ground Zero mosque developer Sharif el-Gamal in attendance. In part, Bloomberg said this:

"If we say that a mosque and community center should not be built near the perimeter of the World Trade Center site ... we would undercut the values and principles that so many heroes died protecting. We would send a signal around the world that Muslim-Americans may be equal in the eyes of the law, but separate in the eyes of their countrymen. And we would hand a valuable propaganda tool to terrorist recruiters who spread the fallacy that America is at war with Islam."

Imam Rauf, the Muslim Brotherhood, and the rest of the Islamists advocate for discrimination; they all work to impose sharia law here is America. We should send a couple of signals. First, America will not tolerate a mosque and "cultural center" being built overlooking where like-minded Muslims slaughtered 2,752 people. And we will never incorporate discriminatory sharia law into our rule of law.

Just for the record: the heroes of 9/11 died saving lives, not "values and principles." In addition, it was Mayor Bloomberg who separated Muslims from Americans by calling them "Muslim-Americans." Have you ever heard anyone call Baptists "Baptist-Americans" or Episcopalians "Episcopalian-Americans?"

There are a lot of good people in NYC; I am related to a few of them and friends with lots of them.

They own 45-47 and have the lease from con ed till 2071,right ? and this lease will be honored by con ed and they will reappraise the property and sell it.

Does anyone think it’s remotely possible that they’ve already established their mosque ?
don’t mean to start rumours but why would they be holding on to empty unused square footage ?
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++=
According to the article, “Sharif El-Gamal, the head of Soho Properties, first came forward in 2006 seeking to buy the empty building at 45-47 Park Place, said Melvin Pomerantz, whose family owned the property.

Pomerantz said El-Gamal eventually raised $4.8 million cash for 45-47 Park Place. El- Gamal paid an extra $700,000 to take over the lease with Con Ed for the building next door. The lease expires in 2071.”

Con Ed said El-Gamal told the utility in February that he wanted to exercise the purchase option in his $33,000- a-year lease for the former substation.

Doesn’t look good and what are they doing with this property right now and since 2006 ?

It is hard to figure how Bloomberg can say this and bear down on it. It a load of pure crap.

This is not the issue and never was the issue. He is diverting on to this issue, as are many, President, and Imam/s etc. It has NOTHING to do with freedom of religion. Say NO! to sharia law. NEVER Sharia.

Notice! do not fall for this absurd excuse for making this issue be about religious FREEDOM.

It is the Islamic style/habit to build/obliterate right on top of other religion's sites; and then claiming the site had always been theirs.

“Bloomb seems to be of the opinion that 9/11 was an attack on New York City.”

It was an attack on NYC insofar as NYC has long been the financial capital of the US (and at least formerly the world). 9/11 was a brilliantly coordinated attack on the US. The most visible, of course, was the WTC. They used OUR technology (planes) to attack OUR targets. Bloomie seems to forget the Pentagon was also hit, tho not so dramatically captured on film. We will never know for sure the target of FLt #93.

In any case, tho born in MA, Bloomie is a typically chauvinistic NYer, who truly believes the world ends at the Hudson River. Or at least anything IMPORTANT in the world.
(that said as a 5th generation born NYer)

they already have their mosque at 45-47—

“”The following is what I understand the building to be about.... The existing building at 45-47 Park Place in New York City’s Lower Manhattan district is the building causing all the commotion these days. It is located a few blocks from Ground Zero and dates back to the late 1850s. A Muslim outreach group the Cordoba Initiative, has been using it for Friday prayers since late last year. The space has been open Monday through Friday between noon and 10 p.m., according to a source familiar with the project. According to the Park 51 website, the facility “will be dedicated to pluralism, service, arts and culture, education and empowerment, appreciation for our city and respect for our planet. Park51 will join New York to the world, offering a welcoming community center with multiple points of entry.”””

The New York Times has a charming little story today about Little Syria having been near Ground Zero. "No one has a definitive claim on any part of town."

Sure, that's what the mosque opponents have been claiming: non-Muslims have a definitive claim on that part of town. They will say anything, no matter how feebleminded, to bolster the lazy liberal sentiments of those who are still paying good money for their desperate propaganda sheet.

A few years ago, the realization came clear to me that just as amorous men of all ages, tell winsome females what they want to hear ... all for the satisfaction of the moment, when they do not actually mean it: likewise our politicians do the same: tell us what they know we want to hear without any intention of keeping their word. SAD!

Again and again people will believe what it is we want to be told. We are stupidly trusting of what it is politicians say, promise, and declare to be truth. NOT SO. Once in office they rarely hold to any of their campaign promises. Corruption, or being cooped becomes standard Mo for most of them. A SAD state of affairs. Political Correctness has made us practically defenseless. Our youth have no idea of America's history, founding, principles, greatness or Constitution. The lawyers have undermined it step by step and incrementally, until it is barely recognizable.

I despair of our current conditions. If we do not oust every incumbent running in this next election, we are lost indeed.
We have fallen too far. As Thomas Sowell stated in his new book, "The Dismantling of America". We will be past reclaiming our power and our Constitution, our rule of law, and our purpose of liberty, freedom, private property, prosperity, traveling freely, and practicing our choice of profession, etc. We will be totally under the thumb of the massive government, bankrupting us at this moment. The elite and the enslaved. Which are you?

Father God, help us in our day, forgive us Father for turning our face away from You, and doing whatever we pleased. Nothing is impossible for You, We repent and seek mercy, in Jesus name, amen.
