Maybe some of you high tech types can help me here. I have a Facebook account. I had one for several months, but all of a sudden, Facebook now requires me to verify my account before I can post anything. The only ways offered are to link the account to a mobile phone or to provide Facebook with a valid credit card. Well, I don't have a mobile phone and I don't get why I would want to give Facebook a credit card number which it could use fraudulently. There should not be any charges for using Facebook.
There is a tech support/help page, which provides me with little if any useable information on the subject. Nowhere is there a tech support telephone number I can call.
So if any of you Facebook subscribers/techies can help -- I would appreciate it. Thank you!
DO NOT!!!
Do not open any messages from facebook asking to to upgrade to a new version of facebook. It is the koobface virus. Facebook is a web app and does not need to upgrade anything on your computer
You have been hacked.
Facebook has no such policy. You are being hacked or hijacked by someone trying to steal your credit card information.
1. Add facebook as a keyword.
2. Look at the many many threads on how Facebook is gonna screw you over unless you are smart enough to cancel, quit and walk away from Facebook.
3. Cancel, quit and walk away from Facebook.
I just had the same problem too, click OK like a fool, and nothing happened. I think maybe my laptop is now exposed.
Have a professional or someone you know who's competent with computers check your system out.
ROTFLMAO. Well played and formatted.
Post of the day!
Every time I hear stories like this, I’m relieved I never opened a Facebook account.
SCAM!
Contact Facebook...you’ve been hacked.
You have not be hacked..happens all the time. Wait 24 hours before posting anything, clear your cache and your cookies and it should go away. Every time FB does an upgrade it puts out weird warnings
Uh oh. Close your account.
Just continue to use your common sense, as you have. FB would have no reason to ask for your credit card info. Delete the account if you can and start a new one. Be careful about which computers you use to log in.
Facebook is a great networking tool, and sometimes a huge waste of time, but it’s not useless or evil. Now, give me your credit card info and I’ll help you create that new account ;)
If someone’s asking for credit card info...it’s a problem.

Sooooooooooo many people are going to regret facebook.
I didn’t get a message to upgrade; I just got this notice that in order to post on other accounts, I would now have to verify my account. I haven’t given Facebook or whoever this is any personal information.
Hacking does sound about right. I started getting events put on my page which I had not placed there. Perhaps whoever placed the events also hacked into my account.
It just makes me mad that there is no one I can tell at Facebook that I’m having this problem and ask them to check it out. Usually, there is some kind of contact information. There is none here. And God knows how many other Facebook users are experiencing the same problem.
Anyway, thank you for your advice.
Take a sledge hammer to you computer, dump the pieces into a barrel of sulfuric acid.
Then go buy a new PC and don’t sign up for facebook.
I did clear my cache and my cookies. Didn’t help.
Someone suggested that I open a new account. Got the same message. And there is no provision for deleting your account as far as I can tell.
