Why CNN totally blew the Rick Sanchez Firing
KTLA.com ^ | October 2, 2010 | Sam Rubin

Posted on 10/02/2010 10:44:33 AM PDT by La Lydia

Welcome to this episode of 'Dumb and Dumber.' I am your host, Sam Rubin. We begin with dope of the day Rick Sanchez, one of a series of TV anchor people, who despite their troubled personal lives, somehow continue to find work, or found work, until today, when CNN, understandably showed him the door...Could this guy be any dumber? Rick was talking with Pete Dominick on XM/Sirius and could not have stepped in it more. His remarks showed both a stupidity and a hubris that is almost unbelievable. It was so interesting to hear Dominick more or less absorb the remarks and know that Rick was just digging himself in deeper and deeper.

Rick's basic contention is that Jon Stewart makes fun of him on the air, because, in part, Rick is Cuban and Jon belongs to the liberal east coast media elite, (not so subtle code for Jewish), and that since Jon and his other cohorts in the Jewish media refuse to see Rick as a top-tier anchorman, they can continue to belittle and make fun of him, since they view him merely as a minority anchorman.

Not exactly. Jon Stewart makes fun of Rick Sanchez, because often on the air, he is a complete buffoon. If Rick were 100% white, or black, or Jewish, or Mormon, or Agnostic; and remained a buffoon on the air, Jon Stewart would also make fun of him.

But the focus of my ire is not on Rick Sanchez, all dopes ultimately do themselves in. I am really angry at CNN. Here is CNN's official statement about Rick departure. “Rick Sanchez is no longer with the company. We thank Rick for his years of service and we wish him well.“

NO! NO! NO! This is a classic example as to why CNN is failing and other media outlets are doing so much better. CNN, let me be crystal clear; Grab a sack, and take a stand. Here is what your statement should have said:

"In light of Rick Sanchez's radio interview, we have fired him. Sanchez's views, which in our view, are clearly anti-Semitic, demand an immediate response, and our response is this, we have asked him to leave CNN immediately. We object strongly to Sanchez's statement that Jon Stewart is a bigot. We also object to Sanchez's statement that the Jewish management at CNN would not advance his career. CNN's management is not characterized by race nor religion. The company that Rick Sanchez described is not our company. We believe in freedom of expression, and we do not care if opinions expressed on our airwaves are not politically correct. We do object when our own employees simply misstate the facts, and allow their own egos to cloud their thinking."

Additionally, CNN should air their own dirty laundry on CNN. This is the perfect topic for Larry King and Joy Behar and all the other talk show hosts. My guess, however, is that, huge mistake number two, CNN probably won't talk about this on the air at all.

Sometimes giant mistakes provide giant opportunities. CNN completely blew that chance here.

Excellent analysis if you ask me.

There really isn’t an analysis needed for firing an Anti-Semite. While I detest Stewart, Sanchez’s remarks re: Jews was antisemitic, pure and simple. Case closed. I am heartened that two arms of the liberal media crossed and one got cut off.

I figured Sanchez should have been in trouble when he 1) could not understand why Iceland has volcanoes because all volcanoes are in equatorial climates and 2) was unable to point at Hawaii on a map, and instead pointed to the Galapagos islands.

I rarely say this of people because it’s usually used as an argument-killer, but Sanchez is truly stupid.

Ah, but it was o.k. when Sanchez and his kind are calling the American citizenry those names, just not his bosses and stewart, eh?

CNN can use diplomatic language, it’s just like when we begun letters to enemies with “Dear,” bad guys in Congress are referred to as “Honorable,” or a victorious candidate finds something positive to say about a despicable opponent after an election. The timing spoke for CNN.

I expect him to turn up on Telemundo any day now, and this is NOT a sarcastic remark.

Maybe Sanchez will replace Gibbs at the White House.

Actually, I’m sure this creep Sanchez will show up on some other network, at some point.

Sorry but calling someone a bigot is NOT a cause for firing.

Or is it that he called a liberal a bigot.

Has anyone on CNN ever actually listened to some of their on air personalities and the vile insults they hurt at republicans and conservatives?

I think he would be better on the Mourning Joe show at MSNBC. He and Barnicle could sit in a love seat.

Well he was offered a 5 year deal with Univision in Los Angeles back in the 90s and passed on it to go to MSNBC. My bet is you are 100% correct. He would look like a total idiot(if that were possible) going back to Miami and WSVN.

Bottom line...Sanchez just threw his dreams down the toilet for some odd reason. He had a daily show and one in prime time on a global cable network and decided to burn it all down on an XM show nobody listens to or even knew existed until yesterday.

He didn’t get fired for calling Stewart a bigot, he got fired for complaining that the people who run CNN are Jewish. Try reading the article.

While Rubin's suggested language is interesting, I'm
not certain there's anyone at CNN with the ability
to write something of this caliber. With anchors, reporters,
and commentators who haven't yet mastered the simple past tense
(saying "I seen" instead of "I saw,") and others who clearly
need refresher English 101, I don't think they could have
said it.

I do not believe he was fired because he called Stewart a bigot. This was an excuse to fire him because he is totally incompetent and stupid.

I have long hated Sanchez with a passion. I could
barely listen to the guy for a couple minutes before
I’d start flicking the bird at him.

There is no chance that huge numbers of viewers didn’t also feel the same way.

Poor me. I mostly watch Telemundo and Univision. One way or the other I will be exposed to this freak.

I rarely say this of people because it’s usually used as an argument-killer, but Sanchez is truly stupid.

No qualification was necessary. There's nothing wrong with making a simple, factual statement, which yours clearly is.

“I rarely say this of people because it’s usually used as an argument-killer, but Sanchez is truly stupid.”

Your restraint is admirable, and not unlike the discretion I once practiced, years ago, before coming to the inevitable conclusion that most liberals, no matter how intelligent appearing they might be, are “truly stupid.” I employ the term not as an argument-killer, but as an argument clarifier.

The substance of what Sanchez said isn’t correct, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a part of what he was trying to say that isn’t true. Jews don’t control “the media”, per se. They do have disproportionately high representation at TV networks, movie studios, publishing houses, and newspaper boards, given that they are only around 2% of the US population.
