Who are First Responders?
They are the men and women of our local communities who put their lives on the line for each of us on a daily basis by responding to emergency (911) calls. They are Firemen, Police, EMTs and others who have promised each of us that no matter what the emergency, they will be there for us. And its a promise they keep every day of their (and our) lives.
Dave Carroll knows a lot about this from first-hand experience. Hes been a volunteer fireman in his home town of Waverly, Nova Scotia while building his musical career. His brother Don (who shares singing roles with Dave in the band, Sons of Maxwell) is a full-time fireman in that same town.

Read about one singer/songwriter who also happens to be a volunteer fireman himself as he begins a North American push to honor ALL the first responders and acknowledges their heroic and unselfish acts. You may never look at an ambulance, police car or fire truck in the same way again.
If only there was some way we could prevent those few adrenalin-junky, authority-fetishist, bad apple, volunteer firefighter first responders from occasionally lighting a structure fire when “business” is too slow to suit ‘em, then my old dad would have one more barn than he does.
I’m currently studying to be an EMT. At the end of the text book there is a section on terrorism. There is a whole paragraph about “anti-abortion” and “pro-freedom” extremists and absolutely no mention of Islamic terrorism. The only time it comes close is when it says “Taliban militants have been associated with terrorism” as if they were falsely accused! 9/11 truther idiots wrote the standards which will determine whether or not you will live or die!
I’m no longer excited about entering the profession. There is truly no hope for anyone.
While I’m sorry you were the victim of an arsonist, it’s imporatant that we not mis-categorize such a person as a legitimate first responder. Sure he may have had the credentials, but there was obviously something wrong with such a person. My point is that your dad was vicimized by a sick arsonist who happened to also be a first responder. NOT the first responder system itself.
Soothesayer: Political Correctness has invaded every aspect of life, but that doesn’t mean you or I have to play that stupid game.
That said, you are implying that there is some sort of conservative controlled input in the writing of the particular training manual you are using.
You have me at a disadvantage as I am not able to see your manual. However, you’re accusing CONSERVATIVES as the ones dictating the standards by which you or I will live or die. That’s laughably naive!
I’m sorry, but when you have someone like Barack Obama and his band of Mao-loving radicals running this country into the ground, you’re going to have a hard time trying to sell your pail of dog-crap to anyone. It is the so-called “Progressive LEFT” that has decided they will tell us all how to live, think, eat and when to taka a crap and what kind of green paper to use to wipe our asses.
So if you really believe that the conservatives are the issue here, you’re probably doing us all a favor by not becomming an EMT. There’s no room in the world of EMT’s for people who can’t think logically for themselves.
You totally misunderstood what I was getting at. I wasn’t accusing conservatives, I was accusing the leftists who wrote that section as if Islamic terror didn’t exist.
I’ve been posting on this site going on 5 years. Why the hell did you think I sympathized with the leftist vermin?
Hey, it looks like I totally misread your original post. You have my sincere apology. Mea Culpa!
I read the part where you referenced anti-abortion and pro-freedom extremists and made the (completely incorrect) assumption you were dumping the blame on those of us who were in that category. I then saw your reference to “truthers” which I’ve only heard in reference to those who feel Barack Obama has never really proven his alleged American birth.
Again, you are right... I mis-read you. Hope you see this apology. More important, I hope you WILL become an EMT. It’s an honorable profession and I am sure you would bring a lot to the table.
Thanks for setting me straight on mis-reading your post.
Apology accepted.
In retrospect, I thin the author of that chapter was trying to avoid political controversy (this is a national curriculum). However, he went about it completely the wrong way. Still upset about it.
