A genuine 'elixir of life' - at least for mice
UK Telegraph ^ | Oct-05-2010 | Richard Alleyne

The cocktail of amino acids - building blocks of proteins - was found to increase the lifespan of mice by 12 per cent. Researchers believe it may also benefit humans, especially the elderly or sick. In laboratory experiments, middle-aged male healthy mice were given drinking water laced with three specific amino acids. The animals lived significantly longer than other mice fed a normal diet. Their lifespan range had a midpoint of 869 days compared with 774 days for untreated mice, a difference of 12 per cent.

The mice are lucky. Even if their lifespan increased 100%, they still wouldn’t have to live on a fixed-income retirement.

whats this retirement you speak off? The way this country is heading I’m planning on working the rest of my life. The one or two week annual vacation I get once I get a better job will be my “retirement”

This will just cause the politicians to raise the retirement age.

I figure if I don’t die on the job, they’ll eventually tell me to just not come back anymore.

It’s too obvious, Leucine, Isoleucine, Valine...L...I...V,
,....LIV!
I wonder why the researchers chose those, would the mice have
lived longer if they got other amino acids...how about if they
got only 2 of them...
somehow the “study” seems a bit lightweight...i.e. were the rats
genetically similar if not exact??
Oh, well I guess we’ll see LIV laced waters, sodas, juice
extracts, cereals, probably even condoms, if the mass
marketing droids get a hold of this one.
Hey, ‘bama you got room for a LIV czar?
