Democrat [VA Congressman Jim Moran] disparages U.S. military service members

This past week, Rep. Jim Moran, the longtime Democrat incumbent in Virginia’s 8th district, unleashed a firestorm of controversy when he disparaged the service of millions of troops and veterans. Moran diminished the value of their service by implying that the sacrifices and service our troops give while on active duty did not count as “public service” in the same way that elected officials are public servants.

The statement shocked and offended millions of veterans around the country as well as patriots who all agree that military service is a more pure and essential public service than being a politician, according to Betty Presley of Move America Forward Freedom PAC.

How interesting to define military service as NOT a public service. Is it just a career choice like dental school or teaching? Really? I must be one of those “odd” unrefined parents who have taught my children to WALK up to a soldier or person wearing a military hat or bumper sticker and say, “Thank you for serving our country”. You are so right when you said that military service provides us the luxury to sleep at night. I thank God for them and their PUBLIC service each night. Just a thought.

You are right. It is pathetic. Instead of honoring the military, Moran is diminishing their value. He is also diminishing the sacrifice of the families (the parents, spouses and children left alone for periods of time if not forever). I personally feel a country that doesn’t value its military is a country that will die or is slowly dying.

Patrick Murray should immediately run ads stating that the greatest honor as a citizen of the Commonwealth is to have our liberty secured under the service and sacrifice of our US military men and women. It is also a great honor to be able to serve the people of the 8th District as their representative in our US Congress. But at no point does honor ever fall upon the citizen because of who represents them.

How can you compare the sacrifice of someone willing to literally put their life on the line to protect their fellow comrades and their nation with that of someone who only has to drive across the Rochambeau Bridge to collect a six-figure salary for a part-time job.
