Thank You.....from Delaware

Fellow Freepers,

I want to humbly thank you for the support you gave to Christine O'Donnell here in Delaware.

So many of you gave money, prayers and moral support as we here tried to break the Democrat hold on the good people of Delaware.

Today, you will hear stories about Christine--about what a poor candidate she was, how Mike Castle was the better choice and a guaranteed win in DE for the GOP, and that she ran a poor campaign.

Believe NONE of it. I had the distinct pleasure of meeting and talking with Christine numerous times during this campaign as Mrs.exit82 and I attended various campaign events.

I heard with my own ears what she stood for, what she would do in the Senate, especially in the lame duck session. I saw her interact with all kinds of people, even those opposed to her. I saw her stand up for the unborn, for the Constitution, for fiscal sanity, for repealing Obamacare, for upholding conservative principles.

I also know that Mike Castle would NOT have won Delaware. The Democrats would not have elected a faux Democrat when they could have voted for a real one in Coons. Obama and Biden would never have come here to help Mike Castle.

As far as running a poor campaign, I don't think so. She had a little more than eight weeks to ramp up an organization, from a shoe-string in the primary, all in the face of no help from her own party in the beginning, and the media onslaught against her.

After all, why discuss issues when we can discuss dabbling in witchcraft 25 years ago, whether she paid her bills, whether she believes in evolution or not.

In the end, it was not enough. The braindead people in Northern Delaware, who had their property taxes raised by Coons three times, over 50%, just couldn't resist pulling the "D" lever one more time.

Christine O'Donnell has guts. She took the hits and did her best. Her defeat of Mike Castle changed Delaware politics forever.

Anyway, no doubt she will be analyzed and criticized and joked about ad infinitum.

However, to me, she is me. And I am proud of her. She helped change the landscape across the country by sticking to her principles.

The purpose of this post is just to say "thank you" to all you Freepers that helped in any way to get her elected. You buoyed our efforts, knowing there were folks all over pulling for us.

Freepers are the best people on the planet. I have been one since late 1998, and I have seen that over and over.

Words are inadequate, but I hope you all know how much I, and we here in Delaware, appreciate all of YOUR efforts on behalf of our little state.

This was one battle, not the war.Our country is worth fighting for, and I sincerely hope Christine will once again be in the fight for all of us.

Thank you, Freepers. You are the best.

It seems to me that O'Donnell was undone by those snotty nosed, elitist RINOs who were afraid she would “embarrass” the Republican party.

Any republican who supports cap and trade is no republican.

Amen to that, FRiend.

We shall soon see what the GOP is really made of.

Did she win? Did she even have a college degree then? Had she ever held a significant elected office then? She is cute though.

So, instead, elect the guy who already HAS a resume and has made consistent property tax increases on the people of Delaware. Is that the experience she needed?

Too many great comments to respond to, but I agree with most of you. I also donated to Christine's campaign as well. Here is why she lost IMHO

1. Republican Party did everything it could to defeat her both in the primary and the general.

2. The Republican establishment, Rove, Cornyn, Castle, Krauthammer, continued to trash her even after she won the primary. After the primary she still could have recovered from the primary wounds if she had gotten complete support from the Republicans. She didn't. She was treated like a joke (refer to #4)

3. Primary too close to general election. She didn't have enough time to overcome mistakes, and missteps in her short campaign. If she had the time to run that 24 minute video over & over she could have won. It was FANTASTIC.

4. She didn't fight back hard enough against the smears. Where was the OUTRAGE? Fight all smears head on with the truth, even if it isn't flattering.

Best of luck to you Christine, God bless you.

Thank you, chippewaman, for that inspiring post.

I stood in the cold for over five hours yesterday as a poll greeter for her, and I wore her Team Christine T-shirt proudly—first time I ever did that for any political figure.

I know I voted for the best candidate yesterday. I was at her concession speech in Dover last night, and saw her class up close. She has the potential to go very far, because she believes in the people of Delaware and America. She’s the real deal.

Yes, the folks up north DE better get their checkbooks out. The Taxman cometh!

Glad you saw the same goodness in her that I did.

I was answering the question of what the exit polls showed, and the answer isn’t a stretch, it’s a fact.

As for the the hypothetical of what would have happened in an actual race, I agree completely: that is unknowable. I wish somebody would explain that to Karl Rove and David Frum. The only thing we know right now - with the benefit of hindsight - is that O’Donnell couldn’t win a general election - and Castle couldn’t win a primary.

Maybe this is what long-term change looks like. After all, a conservative can never win the general without winning the primary. Or maybe this is just Delaware, and it’ll always be left-wing...

Agree with your analysis, except for No. 4.

She did fight back, but the media would not report the outrage.

It was an uphill battle all the way.

Good analysis.

Correction—she was, and is, a great conservative candidate.

She was more courageous in her fight for conservative principles than very few other Republicans I have ever seen.

I think it was more of a message from the party elites to the Tea Partyers. We're still in charge. Trouble is we ain't listening pal. You got two years to show us you got the message or you will become the 3rd party.

I think you nailed it-—an honest conservative was an “embarrassment” to the blueblood RINOs in New Castle County.

Tell Miss O'Donnell that she's helped expose a lot of trolls on FR. The filth posted by some so called “Conservatives” concerning her character was nauseating!

She should enjoy more success after we further purge the RINOs out of the GOP (assuming the GOP continues to exist).

A democrat with an “R” next to his name is the same as a democrat with a “D” next to his name.

Good job, Christine. And thank you!!

Thank you, too! I agree with every word you said. Now that the DE GOP is in a shambles, I am jumping in to help them rebuild properly!

Do you know she was the Republican candidate for senator in 2008? What did she become unqualified since then?

Oh, she's always a candidate. And yes, she was a bad candidate in 2008 too and was soundly thumped by 30 points. It's just that no one cared because she was the official sacrificial lamb.

Did you know she also ran for the Senate in the Republican primary in 2006? See, she lost (badly) and instead of endorsing and supporting the Republican nominee, O'Donnell chose to run a 3rd party write in campaign. Kinda funny how she complains now about not receiving the support of her losing primary opponent when she essentially did the exact same thing just a few years ago.
