"Over 75 websites were seized and shut down last week, and there is no indication that the government will stop such efforts. Right now, their focus is websites that they claim "violate copyrights," yet the torrent-finder.com website that was seized by DHS contained no copyrighted content whatsoever. It was merely a search engine website that linked to destinations where people could access copyrighted content. Google also links to copyrighted content -- does that mean the feds will soon seize Google, too?"

This just in: Boy with 10 fingers tries to plug 1,000 leaks in dyke.
Why don’t they take down Wikileaks.org? It’s being hosted on Amazon.com’s server farm right here in Washington.
Perhaps military/operational/diplomatic communications aren’t covered under the same remit. I know that there are huge swathes of public service data forms that aren’t subject to copyright law - in the UK anyway - so I wouldn’t expect the same legal processes to apply to Wikileaks exposing diplomatic memos, as would apply to torrent sites being targeted for copyright infringement.
But I’m not a lawyer, and I’m not even American, so I could be talking out of my ass.
IIRC, the DMCA is primarily about protecting the commercial interests of the corporates under copyright law. Is that the basis for the site closures?
It would need to be a different approach, but they must have some law to stop the re-transmittal of stolen/classified material... but I’m no lawyer either, so I don’t know. The intent is clear... to damage the USA.

Attack the right. It's their game plan.
The Socialists know what they are doing. And many of us know what the Left is about. But what Republican politician will announce it? Liberalism and its thug tactics are on full display for the entire world to see.
All 76 websites will be back up in a week.
And they will use multiple redirect services like beam.to so that their actual domains will be disposable.

gosh... combined with groping kids and nuns, i’m feeling safer already.
just curious though... when will the ‘department of homeland SECURITY’ stop the 10s of thousands of illegals coming over the border on a daily basis?
“It was merely a search engine website that linked to destinations where people could access copyrighted content.”
Right. In other words, it did LESS than FR in regards to posting “copyrighted material”. These are extremely dangerous precedents, and free political speech is most certainly in the crosshairs.
Our "outrage" seems pretty weak to me. Something stinks.
Is this author serious? Google also wholesale copies ("caches") entire websites from all over the internet, including newspapers, magazines, and a whole lot more.
For that matter, so does the "Wayback machine" at http://www.archive.org/.
My thoughts exactly.
wow...didn’t this wikileak thing just play right into the hands of those in government who wanted to take control of the internet? funny how that happened.
