Romney Loses Home-Field Advantage in Michigan, Tied with Huckabee

Over the weekend Public Policy Polling released its numbers for the 2012 presidential race from Michigan. Obama still does very well there over possible Republican opponents. On the GOP primary side, Governor Mike Huckabee has caught up with Governor Mitt Romney with each getting 22% of the “vote”. Sarah Palin finished third, but within the margin of error (+-4.9%).

In 2007-2008, Huckabee spent little time in Michigan and finished third behind Governor Romney and Senator McCain. This is the state where Romney promised bailouts before bailouts were even cool. He didn’t call it a bailout, of course. It was federal dollars for research and a 500% increase: from $4B to 20 Billion Dollars. No other Republican was for bailouts for the industry. Romney was well before his time on the issue. But he was campaigning in Michigan (January 14th, 2008) and desperate for a win after losses in Iowa and New Hampshire, so his later claim to be against bailouts rings hollow.

The results:

Here are the GOP primary results for Michigan in 2008:

Just an exercise in folly. Neither Rommney nor Huckabee can be the GOP candidates if the GOP wants any chance at winning the Whitehouse.

I have already written the whitehouse off in 2012. It’s clear the GOP intends to run a RINO like Romney. I would rather focus on winning the US senate and more US house and state legislature seats personally. Obama won’t be much of a threat with a conservative controlled senate and house and I honestly prefer gridlock these days anyways.

What bothers me that after the last 2 years, and the results of Nov 2, 2010, that the GOP is even letting these two posture, without anyone saying anything about it, other than nodding their heads in approval. They are so entrenched in the power structure, along with the moonbat liberals, that I fear the Republic is lost, if Nov 2nd meant nothing to these people.

Blue States filled with RATS and RINOS should have NO SAY into who the GOP nominee should be.

That poll also shows Huck the highest among self-described liberals; Mitt, moderates; and Palin, conservatives.

Gingrich has a huge discrepancy with women—hence his writing his own Mama Grizzly column this week—but Palin’s almost evenly supported between men and women.

"Despite outspending his rivals by huge margins throughout the primaries,
(Mitt Romney, Carpetbagger UT,CA,MA,NH,Mexico) lost Iowa, South Carolina, Florida and California.
The only primaries he won were in Michigan, where Dad was governor; LDS states;
and a few states on Super Tuesday in which his California-obsessed rivals
couldn't spare the cash to advertise.
Only John Connolly in 1968 had a worse cash-to-delegates ratio.
And John McCain rightly did not like Romney's tactics during the primaries.
(W)hen (Romney's early leads) started slipping away, he resorted to unfair,
distorted, scorched-earth negative ads, betting that his opponents couldn't
afford to spend enough for the truth to catch up to his charges."

Just an exercise in folly. Neither Rommney nor Huckabee can be the GOP candidates if the GOP wants any chance at winning the Whitehouse.

To disable Huckabee's chances, one has to offer up a candidate capable of embracing the Christian Right, particularly on Right to Life.

Excepting the possibility of Pence, or DeMint, no other candidate, rumored or otherwise, embraces RTL as a Constitutional matter. There is only Huckabee.

Nobody wins without the Christian Right, and they will keep Huckabee in the race entirely by themselves, simply because they have no other choice.

She is not pro choice. But she believes the question of Life belongs to the states.

Mitt hasn’t lived in Michigan for nearly 50 years. I live in Michigan and don’t know anyone who considers him a native son.

Why in the world would any one care what PPP, a demonRAT polling company, publishes about a primary vote, when not a single person has thrown their hat in the ring?

I'm going to have another coffee and then what follows will be how much I care about this poll.

Romney may pull it off. He has an excellant org. Trained and experienced. The problem as I see it, the field will be very crowded thus diluting the conservative vote.
Romney will pull the old GOP guard. Palin will split the vote among others and of course the huckster cult think they are voting for Jesus. The huckster cult is still holding steady and will probably hand the nom to Romney.
Terrible thought!
