In light of the attempted murder of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) in a shooting spree resulting in the death of 6 (including federal judge John Roll) and the wounding of 12 others, I want to underscore the culture of violence and threats of violence being furthered by the Progressive Left by reprising a statement from 2008 in which then candidate Barack Obama told his supporters "If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun....I want you to get in their faces..
The past two years have been very heated in rhetoric coming from the left, and it seems, Giffords may have been in the middle of it. Giffords, a Conservative Democrat of the Blue Dog wing, was an outspoken proponent of border security, a position that has drawn some extreme threats. In April, we saw immigration rights protesters with signs threatening to shoot anyone who stops them and to take back what is theres. Giffords was also a well known supporter of 2nd Amendment rights, a position that does not draw love from the progressive left. Earlier this year, a Democrat congressional candidate whished that gun rights supporters would feel what its like to be shot. Other acts of violence coming from the political left include the nut who flew his plane into an IRS building in Austin, Joe Stack, whos online ranting quoted the Communist Manifesto, and the Discovery Channel shooter James Jay Lee who seemed to be inspired by Al Gores movie An Incontinent Truth and was a radical environmentalist.
During the past eight years, we have been overrun with violent rhetoric from the left against President Bush including a play in New York and a book being written about killing the President and NBC put President Bush in a crosshair target graphic on their news channel. At Progressive anti-war protests, every other sign was one of extreme hate speech, often overlaying President Bush in Nazi garb or making overt threats.
We could also discuss the history of how the theology of hate and violence and related rhetoric directed at the right for the past century of arson, bombings and murders and more that have been directed at free market porponents and how this part of, and not separate from the rest of the far left.
In 2008, an article published in the Two Malcontents blog discussed how the radical and violent hate of William Ayers has permiated the American left. Here are a few excerpts from Viva the Bill Ayers Revolution: Did it influence Obamaâs Remarkable Movement?:
Ayers said, Were not just saying
bring the U.S. troops home and deploy them some place some other time, were saying bring the war home
After Ayers Days of Rage, a four-day declaration of war on the Chicago police where 287 people were arrested and 59 police officers sustained personal injury, on October 21, 1969, the New Left Notes reported a WUO update: We did what we set out to do, and in the process turned a corner. From here on its one battle after another with White Youth joining in the fight and taking the necessary risks. Pig AmerikaBeware: Theres an army growing right in your guts, and its going to help bring you down.
Ayers, who dodged prison because of a prosecutorial misconduct, has reinvented himself as a distinguished scholar who holds court in the antechambers of Chicagos radicals.
The Green Party, which has tended to be the political home for people with views strikingly similar to Ayers's, is frequently dismissed as a fringe party of little electoral consequence, even though its significance lies elsewhere. It is in fact a steaming hotbed of far left factions with theocratic, vigilante, and sometimes revolutionary ideas whose like-minded members get together to make their plans, just like any other organized faction in American public life. The party says it is 100% pro-environment and pro-Animal Rights.
Many of the party's early leaders were Environmental Advocates, or heavily influenced by Environmentalism, including party founder, Senate candidate and presidential candidate Howard Hawkins. Environmentalism, to the Green Party is a theocratic systematic theology whose seminal thinkers, propose radical reductions within the population and elimination of the Western economic system.
The Green Party has also been a political home to a wide array of militias and terrorist groups including the Environmental Liberation Front and Animal Liberation Front- both of which not only use hateful rhetoric but often resort to acts of violence.
There is much more to the Progressive Left story, but let's just underscore that the culture of violent rhetoric, violence and threats of violence has been building from a number of sources for a long time.
Not surprisingly, it was rather easy to find examples of hate and violence from the left (I actually had to cut it way down to make the article mirror the KOS article).

I’m 72, and I have seen the violent acts committed by the left wing on this country on a continual basis since the 1960’s.
Below is another example that will be ignored by the mediots of the left and our left wing attorney general:

Let’s talk about what that mass civil disobedience is going to look like.
“If you’re one of those who have spent their lives undermining progressive climate legislation, bankrolling junk science, fueling spurious debates around false solutions, and cattle-prodding democratically-elected governments into submission, then hear this:
We know who you are. We know where you live. We know where you work. And we be many, but you be few.
Ask Bill Ayers, Obozo’s mentor and buddy about violence and using bombs to express his feelings.
I think this incident has done nothing but show just how dangerous a threat the Left and particularly their leadership is to this country. Their rhetoric being spewed everywhere is nothing but projection to me and shows their willingness to go to any lengths to eliminate their oppositon. It’s not quite unmasked that they are unstable, bloodthirsty and power drunk and desperately want to take control of this country and run it like their little gulag.
Outstanding Vanity!
You nailed’em!
Rep. Gabrielle Giffords voted against Pelosi for speaker. Probably Pelosi sent an assassin. < /sarcasm>
