If White House Was Surprised by Applause at Tucson Pep Rally… Why Did They Ask For It On Jumbotron?

On Thursday, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said that they were surprised by the applause at the memorial pep rally on Wednesday for the victims of the Tucson shootings.

"I will say that I read the speech several times and thought that there wouldn’t be a lot of applause if any. I think many of us thought that. But I think there was a celebration, again, of the lives of those who had been impacted. Not just at that grocery store but throughout the country. And I think that, if that is part of the healing process, then that’s a good thing."

Oh really?

Then why was it printed on the Jumbotron? (pic at link)

If the closed caption called for applause, as it appears it did...... where do you think the script came from? The WH, that is where.

Uh, you don't seem to understand what closed captioning is. It is a stenographer typing into a computer what is being said or other sounds. So it is the stenographer typing in that applause followed Obama saying the word 'School'. It has nothing to do with a directive from the White House.

Stick with what you choose. There is no question but that the applause sign on the tron generated substantial and continued applause.

They expected applause.

Does not matter if they visually promoted the applause or not.

The speech would have worked if it had been done quietly from the oval office. I do not believe for a nanosec that the admin was unaware of what would take place.

Anyway..I don’t know why some are trying so hard to like Obama..or his speech. I guess I can relate to the desire to actually have a real President of all the people..not just a few. We all long for that day and millions were hoping Obama would be it.

But.... I’m such a bubble burster and so focused on reality that it’s annoying to not a few people. I sincerely believe that this entire sad ordeal( rally) was completely staged from start to finish with no surprises.

Obama had to “move to the center” at precisely this place in time to start the push for 2012..everyone knows it but cannot or do not want to believe that he and his circle could be that low...but yes..they were and it is all at once, unbelievable and despicable.

No words can describe the lowliness of using a child’s funeral for your agenda..happens all the time in politics around the world and if there is a God..these people will surely be the first to feel the sting of his rebuke...I doubt they believe any rebuke is forthcoming.

No question? Considering closed caption has a few second delay, I’d say you are just making it up here.

You can’t figure out that applause is happening about when it came on because the typist is noting such? Sheez, there are plenty of real issues over this rally and the entire Tucson matter, we don’t have to engage in this level of intellectual contorsionism to make a valid point.

Your opinion really is nothing more than your opinion. Telling others what they may and may not discuss is childish.
Fact remains if O had not wanted applause his staff would have made efforts to stop it. Applause was orchestrated. This was all about O.
Apparently the applause issue is significant, substantial and major. Protest away, please. Make my case.

You’re just being an ass who won’t let go of his opinion, no matter what facts are presented. A rather liberal tendency.

Telling others what they may and may not discuss is childish.

Using that 'logic', it's childish to tell the left they shouldn't be trying to blame Palin, Rush and the Tea Party for the Tucson shooting.

Sorry, bub, but free speech includes the right to tell the other side they are full of it. If you don't want criticism of your position, don't say it.

A rather liberal tendency

I agree that there is a lot of "liberal tendency" going on. We have very serious problems, yet all anyone can focus on is stuff that, IMO, should not be given an intense about of focus. Lose focus, lose rational thought, react based on emotion, lose the battle. With the exception of the FReepers, most people don't give a darn about the "applause" and the constant "LOOK AT WHAT HE DID" relative to dumb things like applause won't change people's vote.

Yeah, there is good investigation being done on the t-shirt slogan and how it ties to radicalism in the Obama presidential campaign (as well as the very bizzare notion of having t-shirts for a memorial service in the first place). And there is the question of why a memorial service was held at a college auditorium instead of a church - and why liberal pundits are failing to hold Obama and the left 'responsible' for the violent metaphors in their rhetoric.

Lots of bona fide questions to be had here. But we end up looking as petty and stupid as the left if we fixate on the closed captioning on the Jumbotron.

Thank you BUB for your unvarnished verification that you are in fact “the other side” and “don’t want criticism.”
Once again a big ZOT coming right at you.

I guess you can't use reason to get a poster out of a position they didn't use reason to get into in the first place.

Once again a big ZOT coming right at you.

Don't make me laugh. I've been here since 1998. I know wannabee Buckheads when I see them. But Buckhead had something going for him - the facts. You don't.
