I know that there are a lot of jokes about the legal system and lawyers, but this is beyond strange. In Boston, a cat named Sal has been called in for jury duty. Sal has been ordered to arrive at a courthouse on January 23. Your tax dollars at work.

I don't know what his verdict will be.

Anna Esposito, wrote to Suffolk Superior Crown Court in Boston, US, to explain that a mistake had been made, but a jury commissioner replied saying the cat, named Tabby Sal, "must attend" on March 23.

Sal has probably been voting. That is why Sal is now being called for jury duty.

The really sad thing here is that the cat more than likely has more sense than half the people that get selected for jury duty!

Yep. There is a reason that cat was in the jury pool.

Was getting food stamps too? Housing Assistance?

Sal has probably been voting.

Cats vote Republican, dogs vote Democrat.

Somehow this brings to mind an old “Far Side” cartoon where a dog is on trial, and the jury is full of cats.

I don’t think that is the case. The article states that her vet wrote a letter saying it was a domestic short-haired feline, and she listed it in her census report as a family pet.

Sal is probably listed as a dependent on the owner’s income tax return. Thus, he is in the system.

So, let me get this straight, cats can serve in the military but not on a jury?

That's just not right. I felineism

The census would be a poor means of deriving a jury pool list...no up to date addresses.

Look for a legally required, up to date address list; voter registration, public assistance.

According to the article, she listed the cat on her census form as a pet.

I guess next census you will have to count bathrooms and litter boxes...

Sincewhen is there a pets section? The census form I filled out didn’t have a pets section.
And I don’t know if I would answer anyway.WHY do
they need to know about pets?

I don’t know about Mass, but in GA the registered voter rolls are used as a source pool for jury duty.

So, how did the cat become registered to vote, and has the cat voted in an election?

Perhaps that is why the judge is insisting on bringing the cat into court.

I think it may show that the cat wasn’t getting food stamps or welfare.
