The Orwellian Doublespeak of Media Matters’ David Brock

Winston sank his arms to his sides and slowly refilled his lungs with air. His mind slid away into the labyrinthine world of doublethink. To know and not to know, to be conscious of complete truthfulness while telling carefully constructed lies, to hold simultaneously two opinions which cancelled out, knowing them to be contradictory and believing in both of them…
George Orwell thus laid the groundwork for the coinage of doublespeak, at best a simple euphemism, sometimes mere ambiguity, and at worst deliberate deceit. The purpose of doublethink is to synthesize the irrational. The purpose of doublespeak is to propagate it.

Media Matters' head honcho David Brock is a master of both. As he leads the leftist herd in advancing the meme of conservative rhetoric causing violence, he attempts to cloak his demagoguery in a false concession.

They showed the movie of 1984 with John Hurt a few weeks back. I was struck by the similarities with what is happening among the leftists. The parallels were shocking.

You shouldn't be shocked. George Orwell wrote 1984 based on his experiences during WW II and how he perceived Britain of 1948 - Labour ruled, BBC still acting as the mouthpiece of the gov't and rationing and poverty. And he hadn't forgotten his old chums from the left, who, despite everything that had been going on during the late thirties and forties (show-trials, terror, the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact, Finland, the division and later occupation of Poland, Czechoslovakia) still adhered to the Stalinist line of thought.

I caught Glenn Beck’s show yesterday and he talked about the Chinese complexes where large dorm type apartment buildings were built over factories with communal dining and shops all in one spot. They apparently had a high rate of suicide off the balconies so they installed fencing. It reminded me of the visuals in 1984. Scary. Isn’t this what agenda 15 envisions with sustainable living? Gives me the shivers.
