John P. Wheeler III's murder investigation has been going on since his body was found on New Year's Eve of 2011, but it wasn't until this week that a cab driver named Roland Spence of Seacoast Cabs came forward publicly to say he was the one who gave Wheeler a lift from the Amtrak station that fateful week the ex-Pentagon official died.

According to USA Today, Roland Spence contacted the different police agencies involved in the John Wheeler homicide investigation, each referring him on to the next, until he was directed to Newark PD.

Spence said that he spoke with an officer at Newark's Police Department, but he didn't give the officer's name. According to USA Today, Spence claims the officer asked him for details about when he allegedly picked up John Wheeler--and what Wheeler looked like, ...

Thanks :)

Considering how the lack of news reporting, and in some cases disappearance now of news reports on this case has resulted in some erroneous posting - trying to keep better track is essential.

Also, it seems some peoples ‘guesses’ as to what happened posted on many different sites have now become a loose ‘fact’.

I found a "police quote" that said the initial report that he arrived on the 28th was wrong.

There must be a lot of John's buddies and work connections coming forward..

My best GUESS is that John mentioned the worker at his house and someone offered their suite in Wilmington if John needed it AND...eventually, John did use it...and maybe BORROWED a hoodie. Maybe he was headed to his 1993 car??

I eliminated at least one poster from the pinglist because he or she kept insisting that his speculations were undeniably accurate, whereas the actual fact in question can only be revealed by the autopsy. He was wasting bandwidth resenting anyone who posted a counter opinion.

I like a well-behaved pinglist. LOL!

I hear ya on that - sometimes the Nascar thread gets way out of hand. Have had some wild days with a few people.

Thanks for the ping AW.

I have checked news reports for updated time-line(s) and can find nothing after Jan 8th. This story is apparently too complicated for lazy journ0lists or they have been persuaded to let it hibernate.

Hi Cicero, the Newark pertaining to the Wheeler case is in Delaware. As an aside, it’s also pronounced differently in Delaware — new-ARK — as opposed to the way it’s pronounced in New Jersey — NEWerk. Since I was born and raised in New Jersey, I think those Delaware folks have it wrong, lol. :)

My grandparents lived in Red Bank, near the “shore” -—there are no beaches in NJ, just a long shore. :-)

When I was little I would see a sign pointing north towards Sandy Hook with an arrow pointing to Newark. In my 7 year old brain I thought New York was a new Newark. :-) What can I say? I grew up in the slow talking south. My yankee relatives talked so fast ‘New York’ sounded just like ‘NEWerk.’

Interesting that this nearly coincides with Eric Holder’s huge raid on the Mafia in that area. Probably a coincidence, but I should think maybe Holder’s raid might shake up politics as usual in the area.

Yo, Cicero, ha yoo dooin', awrigh? (LOL!)

As another poster noted, this Newark is the one in Delaware; but the mafia is everywhere on the east coast and certainly in Delaware as well as NY/NJ.

I have read a bunch of stories about the Holder bust with interest, since I once lived in a mafia stronghold elsewhere. What interested me was that the reports all mentioned New York, New Jersey and Rhode Island; but not Pennsylvania or Delaware.

The Philly mob wore itself out fighting the New York mob over control of Atlantic City for the past 30 years, and they lost. There have been two or more big sweeps in Philly during that time resulting in scores of convictions. But they proliferate like roaches or rabbits; I doubt that they will ever be wiped out completely from large cities with large ethnic enclaves. Philly has an Italian mob, a Greek mob, a Jewish mob, etc. etc. Only when the enclave itself fades away, such as the old Irish and German neighborhoods having disappeared as succeeding generations moved to the suburbs and disappeared into the mainstream, does the cover for mob activities evaporate.

the managing partner was the one he asked for train fare to ‘go north’ from? or was it his own attorney?
